Discover the Amazing Riches of the Catholic Faith
What is the Catholic Church all about? What does it mean to be Catholic? What do Catholics actually believe?
The Catholic Church is extraordinary. Founded by Christ himself, the Catholic Church is where we encounter God in his Word, his sacraments, and his saints. The Church faithfully proclaims the fullness of faith, leaving no truth out. It proclaims the fullness of life, leaving no person out. It calls all to repent and to believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the source of all life and salvation.
Maybe you’ve been Catholic your entire life. Maybe you’re just beginning to explore the Catholic Faith. Wherever you may be in your journey, you will be profoundly moved by the beauty and the richness of the Catholic Church.
Written and presented by Marcellino D’Ambrosio and Andrew and Sarah Swafford, What We Believe: The Beauty of the Catholic Faith was filmed on location in Rome. In it you will discover:
- What Catholics truly believe
- Who Catholics truly are and how we are called to live
- The blessings of Creation, redemption, and newness of life in the Holy Spirit
- The profound gift of the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of our Faith
- How to imitate Christ through prayer, through personal conversion, and through love for others
- And more!

The What We Believe book that accompanies this bible study is full of treasure & insight. I cannot recommend it enough. The video presentations were a little awkward, but worth watching. Our bible study group would recommend this study, as it prompted some really great discussions, and we especially recommend the book.
This presentation certainly provides a lot of interesting content, but the format was just not for me. It largely consists of listening in to a long, long conversation between the three main presenters, so I didn't feel as engaged as I have with other Ascension programs. Often two of the presenters are speaking rapidly to each other, and while they are speaking one of the others (usually Sarah Swafford) continually voices affirmation ("yes", "right", "amen", "absolutely") which was terribly distracting.
All that said, this program is visually beautiful, and within each chapter there are wonderful segments with presenters like Sr. Miriam James Heidland, Fr. Josh Johnson, and Fr. John Burns, which are very enjoyable and informative. The accompanying book and study guide are good and necessary supplements to the videos, but I will be using them only for myself as we have decided this is not the very best presentation for our RCIA group.
I’m a convert to the Catholic faith 54 years ago. This was before RCIA I had 6 sessions with a priest. 10 years ago Bible Studies we’re started at our parish. I started to learn that being Catholic was more than just attending Mass on Sunday and sending your children to a Catholic school. This is one of my favorite studies. A great follow up to Jesus the Way Truth and Life and to get ready for The Catechism in a year.
" What We Believe " is a great find. The presentation offers great clarity for someone who isn't a theologian. The analysis of the Creed is outstanding: going beyond just recitation, actually placing one at the Council of Nicea and examining the reasons why it is so important to Catholics.
The material is laid out in a very logical and complimentary fashion. The writers deliver clear explanations in conversational style which is comfortable and easy to read. I am anxious to begin this study with my mostly senior, adult Education parish group. I expect they will love it. What more is there to say ?
