Catechism of the Catholic Church, Ascension Edition

After joining the C IY, II realized that I wasn’t retaining all the information that Fr. Mike Schmitt was reading to us. I decided that I would purchase the book in order to help me understand better. It has been a terrific help. I find that I will reread the paragraphs that I might not quite have understood what I should have when Fr. Mike was reading it. It is an amazing book. It gives you such a good description and helps you understand our faith. I would recommend that everyone buy this book especially if they are in the CIY.

Exatley what I was looking for.

The catechism of the Catholic Church with the reading plan for catechism in a year is ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about the faith.

Gave as a gift for a new OCIA student coming into the church, at Easter time. Told him he needs to pay it forward, do something good without any payment. Have that person pay forward. I pray we have a long chain of Pay it forwards.

I bought the book when I came into the Church three years ago. Followed Fr. Mike Schmidt during the first Catechism in a year podcast. Recommend to all.

Just started this journey and love it!

The Ascension Catechism is a wonderful resource and is well constructed. After two months it is breaking in slowly but surely. The paper is excellent for constant page turning. Also, provided you use the appropriate pens and highlighters, note-taking hardly bleeds through at all, although, I understand that no reasonable paper will totally eliminate all bleeding through. I love the items in the appendix! The index is very helpful and I use it constantly. I also turn to the glossary quite a bit. Importantly, particularly because the catechism is a "study book" by its nature, I'm very pleased that you included the four ribbons! I enjoy the white cover, too. Well done!

The print and organization throughout the book are wonderful.
I enjoyed the podcast as Fr. Michael Schmitz read and gave commentary.

Love the feel of this and it is the perfect large font for my reading without making it too heavy. This will help me on my path to my confirmation next April.

This and the podcast have ignited a renewed desire to seek out the meaning behind my faith. I would love to see a more masculine cover option for those young men out there who might appreciate it.

The catechism itself is profound and beautiful, and this volume does it great justice.

I’m only about 100 pages in to the Catechism but liked it so much I bought it and the Bible for my niece. Father Mike’s information is so valuable!! With those two things combined, I am really enjoying learning and discovering my past!!

Since a large number of Catholics are from Spanish-speaking countries, it feels necessary that your edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church be more available to that public. I'm not referring only to the paperback edition of the Catechism, but also aiming to produce a Leather-like version in the same way you did with your Great Adventure Catholic Bible. You should explore the possibility of cooperation with Editorial Desclée de Brouwer (as you did in the past) or with another Spanish or Latin American publisher to make the Catechism more available.

No me refiero solo a la edición tapa blanda del Catecismo, sino también a la intención de producir una versión símil piel de la misma manera que hicieron con su Biblia Católica Great Adventure. I recently purchased the English leatherlike edition of your book. Many of my followers on my Spanish YouTube channel have been asking where they can find a similar leatherlike edition in Spanish. As far as I know, it’s only available in paperback.

I first bought this catechism years ago on Amazon-directly from ascension press, but it never shipped and was eventually canceled. A few weeks ago I tried to buy it on Amazon again and it was clearly going to do the same thing after never shipping. After reading the reviews on Amazon, I realized I was not the only one going through that. (Although the reviews have since been erased?) But I also noticed the shipping is not handled by Ascension press it’s handled by Amazon. So I went ahead and cut out the middleman and bought it directly from the website, which was clearly the right thing to do because it shipped pretty immediately. I finally got the precious! It took me years but It’s mine! Lol Ya’ll made me work for it.

I’ve noticed people complaining about the cover. Fake leather is wiser for this era though. Personally I would rather not have a dead animal plastered on my catechism or my Bible when there’s a choice-and I’m in cattle country! And since cows are a huge part of global warming-which this church recognizes the danger of-it’s more responsible to not fuel the beef industry more than necessary. The world wasn’t meant for this many cows.

I haven’t used this a ton yet, I didn’t even realize Ascension had published a catechism until I went to buy the new notetaking Bible. But I’m really impressed so far, it’s a nice, readable layout way more beautifully designed than the well known big green catechism!). I’m sure the extra space for notes will come in handy. I saw some critiques of its binding, but honestly it looks well bound to me. The pages have a nice smooth matte texture and have a decent thickness, and the text is about the same as the notetaking Bible, so pretty readable. The four ribbons for each section are nice. The way it prominently shows the sources throughout, highlights important terms, etc is excellent. I highly recommend.
