Helpful after listening to the Bible reading by Father Schmitz. Have referred back at times to Volume 1 and 2. It’s a great resource for me.
I Read first the companion for the day. Then I read along with Father Mike. I use the catholic version of the New Adventure bible. Then I listen to Father Mike speak of the companion info. This works best for me.
This book makes all the more convenience than jotting down in your notes during podcast. I read them after listening to the podcasts.
I have been using the companion books for Bible in Year since about week 2. It is so helpful to read before I listen. I’m on companion book IiI now. It helps me understand better what I’m ready and a great reference to the comments from Father Schmitz. Each day also has Fathers prayer for the day. I love the Dive Deeper paragraph for each day. They are thought provoking as well. No question. These companion books are so worth it!
I did the BIAY 2 years ago, creating my own journal/notes along the way. These companion pieces make BIAY even better! I also love the added notes on something of interest in page 2 of each day. There is also plenty of space to add my own thoughts each day.
167 days ago I received the news that my husband had prostate cancer. I was taken by surprise and ask God to be with us and guide me, I needed to stay strong for him for us. It hasn’t been an easy journey. But GOD has provide amazing people, listening to Father Mike everyday has help me focus on what’s important today.

I skipped volumes 1 & 2 and regret that decision. Volume 3 has been so helpful in my retaining what I have read and highlighting Fr. Mike’s summaries. I’ll be reading the Bible again with Vol 1&2 by my side! Thank you Ascension Press for your fabulous publications.
This is my second year listening to BIAY and I feel I'm getting more than double, the second time around, but I still need a little extra to help me in my journey.
Confession: I can drift even when listening to Fr. Mike. Sometimes I daydream and wonder "how does he pronounce all these names"? I rewind. A lot. Even so, my retention is not close to 100%. The Companion summarizes the primary points, the prayer focuses me, and the "Dive deeper" challenges me. I look forward to reading it every day, solidifying my understanding of the Bible, and bringing me ever closer to my creator and our Lord. It should be in everyone's hands and is a great companion to any Bible. Thank you!
2022 was the first year I started Bible in a year. I don’t see how I could’ve really understood the podcast as much without having this companion guide. I highlight and write all my notes in this guide book so this way I can still keep my Great Adventure Bible neat and tidy. I love the review questions at the end of each time period . The general introductions before the next time periods are also extremely helpful to understanding the big picture.
The companion book is beneficial, not only as a preview or instant review, but also as a reference to look back into past teachings. It is a concise way to review each section and well worth the price.
I cannot even express how the BIAY has changed our lives! My husband and I listen to Fr. Mike and read along with our bibles every morning. The first year (2021) we did not have the Companion available to us so we didn't know what we were missing. This second year we do and we have purchased each one (there are three). They are easy to go back to whenever we have a discussion or want to clarify a reading or timeline. As another review expressed, they are great to read before Fr. Mike dives into the daily reading to set the stage for deeper understanding. These will be on our shelf along with our Catechism and our family bible. Our family generations will find them a great source of our faith. Well done, Ascension! You continue to help shape our faith formation and for that we thank you.
I’m definitely understanding and retaining more when I read the Companion Notes BEFORE listening to BIAY w/ Fr. Mike. They provide such a good outline and really hit all the main concepts. I’m still taking a few notes on my own. It might be nice to have a spiral-bound workbook version (8.5x11) with an area for additional notes.

I did the BIAY, last year without these companion volumes. This year, I am doing it again, but with the use of the companion volumes. What a huge difference for me this year! I use it as a pre- read before listening to the podcast and things are much clearer for me. Of course Father Mike adds a great deal to my understanding as well! I would definitely recommend these volumes!

This is a wonderful addition to the daily readings, giving ready reference to Fr. Mike's commentary. I have done the year without this blessing and am now redoing the year with the book. I highly recommend it
