Helping prepare engaged couples to embrace God’s plan for the sacrament of matrimony is an honor and a privilege. In today’s climate, it is also a challenge. Joy-Filled Marriage is a marriage preparation program designed to meet that challenge. This program offers a comprehensive approach to marriage preparation that covers not only the sacramentality and theology of marriage, but the practical life skills necessary to live out the rich Catholic vision of marriage.

This program will help participants:

Appreciate what the Catholic Church teaches about marriage, and why
Embrace the gift of grace that makes a lifelong, joy-filled marriage possible
Explore important topics, identify shared goals, and set concrete plans to build a joy-filled marriage

A Three-Stage Approach:

1. Learning Stage

Couples learn sound principles and a fresh, virtue-based approach to life skills, as well as the Catholic vision of marriage and the beautiful and significant gift of sexuality.

2. Discuss & Discover Stage

Through focused questions and activities, couples discuss their relationships, learn about themselves, and begin applying what they have learned.

3. Plan and Build Stage

Couples recognize topics they may need to discuss at a later date, identify shared goals, and set a vision to build a joy-filled marriage. All this is captured in one keepsake: the Couple's Journal.

Joy-Filled Marriage Can be Done by You, Done with You, or Done for You:

Done by You

If your parish already has a marriage prep team and a program structure in place, the "Done by You" model is a great fit. In this setup, you simply purchase the materials.

Order one Couple’s Set for each engaged couple. This includes the Couple’s Guides, access to the videos, and the Couple’s Journal.
Order one Leader’s Set for each leader. This includes the Leader’s Guides, a reference copy of the Couple’s Journal, and video access.

Done with You

If your parish needs help building or rebuilding a marriage prep team, Ascension will walk with you as you bring Joy-Filled Marriage to life. Whether in person or on Zoom, Ascension will train your leaders to run the program with confidence. Pricing is customized for each parish or diocese.

Done for You

If your parish or diocese does not have a marriage prep team in place, you can send your couples to Ascension’s online certification courses. There are two options:

A fully digital, self-paced course with videos, workbooks, and quizzes. Couples complete it on their own and receive a certificate at the end.
A self-paced option that also includes a live, guided virtual discussion. Couples receive the videos, workbook, and quizzes, plus they join an interactive small-group conversation led by Ascension. This option ends with a certificate of completion that can be branded with your diocesan logo. It is also available in Spanish.
