Josh addresses the topic of the seven deadly sins and identifies why people struggle with some in particular.

Saint Story: St. John XXIII (12:15)

St. John XXIII was born in Italy in 1881. His parents named him Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli. He grew up on a farm and was always very proud of where he came from. In 1904, he was ordained a diocesan priest. However, he was also a member of the Secular Franciscan Order.

As a priest, St. John XXIII continued his studies in canon law and then worked as secretary to his bishop. He also taught and was the publisher for his diocese’s paper.

He had an active role in both World Wars. In World War I, he saw much devastation as a stretcher-bearer. During World War II, he was a papal diplomat in Bulgaria, then Turkey, and finally, in France. Working with an ambassador, he helped save around 24,000 Jewish people.

In 1953, he was made bishop of Venice. Just six years later, he was elected pope. As pope, he wrote, he increased the number of cardinals, and he opened the Second Vatican Council.

St. John XXIII, was a humble man who worked incredibly hard for others. He died on June 3, 1963.
