Why the Rosary Is Essential

The rosary is not just a prayer that grandmas and nuns pray. The rosary is an essential prayer for everyone’s spiritual life. Today, Fr. Josh is joined by Dr. Mike Scherschligt to discuss the power of the rosary. Dr. Mike also shares about his own faith journey and his mission to get as many people to pray the rosary as possible.

Saint Story: Blessed Pauline Jaricot (31:30)

Pauline Jaricot was born in Lyon, France on July 22, 1799. She was the youngest of seven children and grew up in a fairly wealthy family. Her family were faithful Catholics and were friends with St. John Vianney.

When she was seventeen years old, Pauline encountered Christ in a powerful way at St. Nizier Church. She had struggled with vanity up to this point, but her encounter with the Lord changed everything. In 1816, Pauline made a vow of perpetual virginity.

Pauline did many things throughout her life. She helped serve the poor. She founded multiple organizations and societies such as the Daughters of Mary, the Association of the Living Rosary, and the Society of the Propagation of the Faith.

Pauline struggled greatly with bad health. She experienced a miracle of healing when visiting the relics of St. Philomena.

In her final years, Pauline suffered in a different way. In an attempt to help the silk workers in Lyon, she purchased a factory. She was hopeful that it would be a great benefit to the poor. However, she was swindled and ended up with many significant debts. Due to this, her reputation was greatly damaged. When she died, she was quite poor and quite alone. She died in 1862.
