Why Do You Pray?
What motivates you to pray? Do you go to prayer for the sake of God himself? Are you praying in order to have a relationship with him? These are good motivations. These are reasons that we ought to feel pulled to prayer. However, sometimes we can go to prayer for other reasons. Rather than going to prayer for the sake of the Giver, we go to prayer for his gifts. Our focus must be on the Giver.
The Beginning Is Sweet
For many people, the beginning of the prayer life is very sweet. It is full of consolation and joy. We find ourselves eager to go to Mass and Adoration. We desire that time with God above all else. However, for a lot of us, after we have been praying for a while, it can become a drudgery. Prayer becomes difficult. The consolations are either nonexistent or few and far between. We must persevere in our prayer.
St. Faustina Quote
One act of trust in such moments gives God greater glory than whole hours passed in prayer filled with consolations.
