The Spiritual Battle Behind Leisure

The Spiritual Battle Behind Leisure

Ascension Team

Finding time for leisure in our lives often feels like a battle, for the enemy uses many distractions to prevent us from experiencing communion with God and others. As we enter Holy Week and come to the end of this season, Sr. Mary Grace, Sr. Ann Immaculée, and Sr. Marie Veritas reflect on the spiritual battle behind leisure. The Sisters encourage us to overcome the resistance to rest by contemplating Jesus' immense love for us demonstrated on the Cross—He is the ultimate reason for our rest.

The devil doesn't want you to discover the power of pondering

Shownotes

“Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready; (Revelation 19:7)

Challenges of the Week

  •  Reflect on your day and identify the moments of distraction that take your time away from you. Ask the Lord for the grace to be fully present in the tasks entrusted to you, so you can create more time in your schedule for leisure.
  • Enter Holy Week intentionally, taking time to sit with the Lord and contemplate the mystery of the Paschal Mystery.
  • Remember that leisure is communal—invite your friends and family to participate in leisure activities with you.

I have so enjoyed the past 2 seasons of your show, Sisters! It’s sad to see this season end. You are so vibrant and have the greatest stories from your life experiences. I was a convert from Protestantism at age 34, and never knew any nuns while I was growing up (well, except Sister Bertrille, from the “Flying Nun” TV series, in the 60s, which none of you are old enough to have seen.) It’s wonderful to learn about your lives as Sisters of Life. I admire all 3 of you and find myself giggling at many of your stories…what an International group you 3 are…American, Australian, and Canadian (I think…or else a very strong Minnesotan or Wisconsin accent!) Thank you for your weekly podcast, and have a Blessed Easter.
