The Advocate

The Advocate

Can we love like Christ loves? This is what Christ commands us to do, but is it possible to do on our own? Dr. Sri explains the importance of the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, when it comes to loving others as Christ loves us.

Snippet from the Show
If we want to love as Christ loves, we must ask for the help of the Holy Spirit.

John 14:15-21

Jesus said to his disciples:
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,
because it neither sees nor knows him.
But you know him, because he remains with you,
and will be in you.
I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
In a little while the world will no longer see me,
but you will see me, because I live and you will live.
On that day you will realize that I am in my Father
and you are in me and I in you.
Whoever has my commandments and observes them
is the one who loves me.
And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father,
and I will love him and reveal myself to him."

What Is the Advocate?

Jesus tells us in John’s gospel that an Advocate will be sent to us. In Latin the word used is “advocatus” which means “he who comes by your side.” This is the Holy Spirit. However, the Holy Spirit does more than just walk alongside us. He comes into us. He lives within us. The Holy Spirit gives us sanctifying grace.

What Needs to Change in Your Life?

What area in your life do you want to change? Is there something you need help with? Perhaps, there is a friendship you are struggling with. Or maybe, there is a vice you want to overcome. Whatever it is, ask the Holy Spirit to help you.
