Looking for the Hand of God

There are so many things that can come up during Lent. Rather than seeing these things as problems, try to see them as places where God can meet us.

Jesus Lays Down His Life

If we read through this passage in Scripture, it is clear that Christ is not surprised by his arrest. He doesn’t try to flee. He goes to meet his betrayer Judas and those coming to take him away. The way in which Jesus meets his betrayers is a reminder of what he says in John 10:17-18 “No one takes my life from me. I lay it down of my own accord.” Jesus is the master of this situation. He is basically giving permission to those coming to arrest him.

Laying Down Your Life

How do you respond when bad things happen or when you’re disappointed? When things come up in life, it can be so difficult not to lose our interior peace. However, we must strive to see God’s hand in it. We can acknowledge the disappointment but then we must ask for God’s help in responding well. We must acknowledge that God is in charge.

Unite Your Suffering with Christ

I can take the hurt that I feel and offer it up out of love. We can choose to accept the bad or disappointing things that happen to us. However, we do not have to lose our life in Christ, our joy and peace. We can unite our suffering with Christ in these moments.

Call on the Name of God

When you face difficult moments, don’t let those situations take your life from you. Speak the name of God. Make the Sign of the Cross. Call on the Person of the Holy Trinity. In the Garden of Gethsemane, the soldiers who came to arrest Christ fell to the ground when Christ called upon the name of God. So, call on God’s name. The enemy will fall to the ground.
