Saint Story: St. Moses the Black (15:10)
St. Moses the Black or St. Moses the Ethiopian lived a very interesting life. In the earlier part of his life, he was a slave until he was suspected of theft. He was then dismissed. From there, his life took a downward spin as he turned completely to a life of thievery. After years in this life, he was running from the authorities and saugh shelter with some monks in the desert.
Moses was inspired by the monks’ lives, so he converted and joined their community. It was not easy for Moses to change his life. He worked incredibly hard at growing in virtue and prayer. He felt the weight of his sins and his imperfection. The community showed him much grace and kindness.
Eventually, Moses became a priest and the leader of the community. When he was about seventy-five years old, word reached the community that a gang was going to attack the community. Moses with seven others remained and greeted the gang with peace. However, all of them were martyred.
The feast of St. Moses the Black is on August 28th.
