Saint Story (15:24)
St. Elizabeth of Portugal was born in 1271. Her father was the king of Aragon. She was raised in virtue and spirituality. This early formation was essential for what was to come in her life.
When she was only twelve years old, she was given in marriage to the king of Portugal, Denis. He was not a good husband and did not even hide his infidelity to her. Despite this cross, Elizabeth remained faithful to God by attending daily Mass and receiving the sacraments. She was also very charitable both by giving to others and befriending others.
After many years of praying for him and seeking his conversion, her husband turned away from his sinful life. She was able to facilitate reconciliation between her husband and their son.
After her husband’s death, Elizabeth lived at a monastery with the Poor Clares as a third-order Franciscan. She died in 1336
