Saint Story: St. Mary Zhu-Wu (19:49)
Mary Zhu-Wu was born in 1850 in China. She was married to Zhu Dianxuan and together they had four children. The family were faithful Catholics and leaders in their village.
During the Boxer Rebellion, they accepted 3,000 Christian rebellions into their village. Shortly after, Boxer soldiers attacked the village. Zhu Dianxuan was killed while defending his village. Later, Mary Zhu-Wu and many other villagers had barricaded themselves in the church. When the Boxer soldiers broke into the church, Mary Zhu-Wu stepped in front of the priest shielding him from the bullets fired by the Boxer soldiers. Along with hundreds of others, Mary Zhu-Wu died.
St. Mary Zhu-Wu was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2000.
