Compartmentalizing Faith

Do you ever find yourself compartmentalizing your faith? In our culture today, it can be very easy to leave our faith at church or in Bible Study. However, Fr. Josh encourages you to bring your faith everywhere…even Bachelor/Bachelorette parties and to the workplace.

Question 1: Can I have a bachelor/bachelorette party? (5:33)

I am soon to be married and my fiancé and I have received comments from others about our Bachelor and Bachelorette parties. Before our engagement we came to the agreement that we would not have bachelor/bachelorette parties however many friends keep asking us too, even Catholic friends. What is your opinion on these parties from a Catholic perspective on relationship and marriage?

Question 2: Sunday Obligation and Job Requirements (10:39)

Hi Father Josh! Love the show! I am a nurse who is obligated to work every other weekend at the hospital, which means I am only able to attend mass twice a month on my off days. Any suggestions for professionals who have to work weekends on how to fulfill the obligation to attend Mass? Thanks!

Saint Story: Saints Timothy and Maura (15:12)

Sts. Timothy and Maura were a married couple who lived in the late 200s. They were only married for twenty days when Timothy was arrested for being a Christian and teaching the faith to others. This was during the reign of Emperor Diocletian who is known for his persecution of Christians.

While being tortured, Timothy’s wife Maura was brought in to persuade him to renounce his faith. However, she encouraged him and declared herself to be a Christian as well. The couple endured unimaginable torture for the following days before they were crucified together. Throughout their torture and as they died, they encouraged each other to remain faithful.

The feast day of Sts. Timothy and Maura is May 3rd.
