Avoiding Burnout

Avoiding Burnout

Burnout is an unfortunate reality for many of us. Jeff Cavins sheds light on what we can do when experiencing burnout and how we can avoid this cycle in the future. The key is found in a relationship with the Lord. By uniting ourselves to the Lord during our most challenging times, He will give us the strength and grace to persevere. Leave your burden at His feet.

Stop fighting and give this to Jesus.

Isaiah is Divided Into Two Books:
  • Chapters 1-39 focus on judgment
  • Chapters 40-66 focus on comfort
Isaiah 40:27-31

Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hid from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God”? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary, his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Romans 8:37

We are more than conquerors. This means that we come out of a battle with more than we went into it.

Process of Burnout

1. We are challenged with something
2. We go through denial
3. We start withdrawing
4. We become bitter toward others
5. We walk away

Two Kinds of Life Spoken of in the New Testament
  • Bio = Biological life
  • Zoe = God's kind of life; His quality of life
John 11:17-26

On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem, and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. "Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now, God will give you whatever you ask." Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day." Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

John 5:40

Yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

Matthew 11:28-29

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.

John 10:10

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.

John 20:31

But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing, you may have life in His name.

1 John 5:12

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

John 5:19-21

Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing because whatever the Father does, the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement, he will show him even greater things than these. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so, the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.

John 15:5

I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.

Ecclesiastes 4:12

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

John 7:38

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.
