Day 3: The Lord Be With You

Every Mass, we’re being set apart for a special mission, signified by the priest’s greeting: “The Lord be with you.” Dr. Sri reveals how these words appear in the Bible whenever God calls someone to a bigger purpose: Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, Joshua and Gideon to lead the Israelites, and Mary as she is called to be the mother of the Messiah. We too are being called in Mass to leave our comfort zones and encounter the living God, and these opening words should remind us of the incredible purpose we’re being called to.

Where in your life do you most need to be reminded that you are not alone and that God is truly with you? What burdens or anxieties can you intentionally bring to Mass today and place into God’s care?In what way can you more meaningfully participate in the response “and with your spirit” by praying for your priest and the community? How might trusting in God’s presence help you face a current challenge with greater courage and peace?
