The Bible in a Year Companion, Volume I

I finished Bible in a year and sometime in November I saw the advertisement for the BIY com[anion books sa. I ordered the first volume. After receiving the book and reviewing it I wished I had known about this at the beginning of my Journey through the Bible.. I love that there is room at the bottom of the pages for personal notes, thoughts and ideas. I have mentioned the Companion series to friends that have taken or still taking the BIY journey and they say the same thing they wished they would have ad the companion when the began BIY program. I see why it is called the companion...Great job.

Great addition to BIY. Structurally, the book is very stiff and hard to open. It would’ve been nice in a spiral binding, especially as an avid note taker. Note writing space would’ve been great too but otherwise a great book

This book is more convenient than jotting down your notes during podcasts. I read them after listening to the podcasts. This is my first year at BIY. It would be great to have a companion for the Catechism as well.

Concise and to the point.
Shipping charge is outrageous.

I am a note-taker; it helps me understand, remember, and internalize Sacred Scripture. A prior attempt to keep up with The Bible in a Year podcast met with limited success so I planned to start over from the beginning in January. My friend sent me a screenshot sample of an early page in her Companion, Vol. 1. It was nearly identical to my notes! That's when I knew having the BIY Companion volumes throughout this year would be crucial for me. So far, so good! Thank you for the excellent study aid of my BIY Companion.

My sister and I are doing BIY and I use the companion, my sister doesn't. Just doing the podcast is amazing in itself but if you want to truly retain what you hear/read you NEED this. I can easily recall my journey, review introductions to new time periods, retake the quizzes at the end of each era... my understanding of the Lord's word is always right in front of me. I love it! Please give it a shot! And I have just ordered Volume II...

This companion is absolutely great! It is packed with valuable information and important key notes of the daily podcast session. I like how each day is broken down into 3 parts (Reflect on the Word, Take It to Prayer, and Dive Deeper). I personally think the BIY companion was a brilliant idea. To all who worked on putting this together and making the BIY companion happen.... thank you so very much!

When I got the book I was already on day 122. So will use this book when I redo the reading of the Bible in a year sometime in the future.

Never in a million years did I think I would be able to stick with reading the entire Bible. I’ve done several Bible studies thru Ascension and they are very good, but I was too overwhelmed when I would try to read on my own.
I love the companion bc I don’t feel like I have to take as many notes. LOVE IT and Fr Mike’s BIY program. Thank you!!!

The vast majority of the contents of this book are already stated on the podcast. On some days there is a bit more content and history, but on others it only asks questions about your life. This is okay, but I thought it would be going deeper than that.

I absolutely love it!! From the reflect on the word to the prayer and dive deeper, I love all of it!!

Even though I didn't receive Volume I in time to use it for long, I referred daily to the online version. I like using Volume II, even though I take my own notes each day as well. I am a more visual than auditory learner, so I get more out of Fr. Mike's prayer when I can read along. I also enjoy the Dive Deeper portion with even more historical information or photos.

I am glad I have both volumes for reference in the future, and will order Volume III.

I can also show my daughter so she can see what the podcasts cover.

Got my Bible in both my volume one and two study book. Just waiting for my reading plan. Super excited to get started.

I have found The Bible in a Year Companion to be an excellent resource to use to help dig deeper into the readings and allow me to record my reflections as well as review my initial thoughts from The Bible in a Year Notebook I filled in when I first did the program. I am currently going through the program again and am gaining more understanding and insight into my faith. Thank you for addition to the program.

When I ordered the book I was told it would come in April so I decided to order it. The book didn’t arrive until the second week of May and we are way past the content in volume 1. So I don’t know if it would have been helpful.

I really like my Bible in a Year Companion. I was able to use the online companion that you sent me as I waited for the book to be sent. I found it helpful, but I had to complete the podcast before I could use it because they were both on the same computer. Now that I have the book it is open beside my Bible and I can follow Fr. Mike as he prays and talks at the end of the podcast. It is a great tool to use and I love being able to pray with Fr. Mike. I am only at the beginning of the podcast so when the time comes I will be ordering Vol. 2.

Having both volume 1 and 2 now I can say that I treasure these 2 books as a quick, easy reference when I want to refresh and deepen my understanding of God's word. The prayers are insightful as well as the reflections listed for each day. The dive deeper sections always add another dimension to the scriptures of the day. I find myself able to share even more connections for daily mass readings with my family too! I am looking forward the next volume. I hope it will be available and in my hands before we get to day244. Praying for all of you who teach God's word.

By the time I finally received the companion workbook volume 1, we were into volume 2 readings. So it’s completely useless . I did appreciate the flip book however and I will give it at least 4 stars as I know it could have been valuable if it had arrived in time to use

This is a very valuable supplement to BIAY. This is my second time engaged in BIAY; my first year I took notes. With the Companion, I now have organized summary of Fr. Mike's remarks, his daily prayer verbatim, and a Dive Deeper section for supplemental thought. This is a book I will keep at close access; I have had instances where people have asked me about a confusing Bible reading. With the Companion, it is easy to return to that reading to find F. Mike's guidance and use it as a resource for others who need guidance and an understanding of a particular story/reading. A practical matter: I took mine to FedEx to have it bound with spiral. It makes it much easier to use.

I initially bought the first volume for myself. I truly enjoyed it. Therefore I purchased another Volume I for my daughter in law and have purchased two Volume II for each of us. Waiting to get III as soon as they are ready. I listen nightly to his podcast(this is my second year through the Bible) and learning new things each time. I can’t always have access to Fr. Mike’s podcast so the companion comes in handy. But this year I have been reading my companion along with the verses in the Bible sometimes during the day and still listening to Fr.Mike at night. This has truly brought me closer not only to God but to my Bible. I can’t thank you enough but mostly to my Son who told me about Fr Mike nearly 18 months ago.

I highly recommend this book as part of the Bible in a Year learning system. It is a treasure and offers greater insight with its bullet points for each day's reading, 'diving deeper' and prayer. The price point of $25 is high but well worth it! I am glad that Ascension is taking pre-orders for those who missed Volume 1. Thank you!

The bible itself is great, but having these summary notes, in addition to the "Deeper Dive" information really seals the deal! This companion really helps the tricky parts of the Bible make sense, and help understand the overall themes of the Bible! This companion, the Bible in a Year podcast and the Great Adventure bible combination has truly changed my life and helped me see life through a new lens!

As a Catholic, I hear the Bible read at every Mass.....but NOT LIKE THIS!!!!! The amount of detail I was missing is enormous! I constantly find myself musing, was this always in there? God certainly does reveal His Heart in the words of Scripture, as Fr. Mike points out. God has a plan...has always had a plan. Thank you BIAY folks!!!! P.S. When I first received the BIAY Companion Volume 1, I was disappointed and thought I had wasted my money. However, it has turned out to be invaluable. The major points of each days readings are listed clearly and concisely along with Fr. Mike's daily prayer and a 'Dive Deeper' section that has great information, such as pictures or a soul-searching question. I read it every day before Fr. Mike's readings and refer to it often during his discussion of the readings. I will purchase the other volumes the minute they become available!
This is my second time to read the Bible with Fr. Mike and I can't wait to see him tomorrow!! I pray that you are on this journey with us! God bless!

This single book is deepening my understanding of the Bible 100%! I have read the Bible almost daily since high school, and completed Bible in a Year last year, but something about following along with Father Mike’s podcast with my Great Adventure Bible, pausing it to read the two pages out of this book for each corresponding day, and then listening to the commentary section of the podcast later in the day is such a wonderful combination that I am understanding the Bible more than ever before. This book is invaluable and I am so excited to continue through The Bible in a Year this year. The simple, but educational points made in this book are making connections in my brain that I haven’t made before and I am so thankful for Ascension and everyone working on this program. Thank you!

Words cannot express the joy I am receiving to understanding what I'm reading. I was to start last year but, a lot of sadness with the death of family members, I prayed that the podcast continue in 2022 and my prayers were answered. I just love it, I go to bed going over and over thanking God for this opportunity to reading the Word of God.

Helpful and easy to use. The book was sold out so we got the digital version. Can’t wait for Volume II.

I can't put into words what The Bible in a Year has meant to me. Every day I get Fr. Mike reading the Bible to me and then explaining what he read. I don't always understand, but just let the Word of God go into my heart. I did this last year and I intend to do it again this year. I am not a Bible scholar, but sometimes I hear myself repeating what I have heard from Fr. Mike. Or I hear a reading at mass and understanding it a little better. This podcast has been a blessing to my life and I thank you very much for doing it. I can't wait for the Italian version. God bless you all.
