The book is excellent. I am looking forward to my granddaughter and great grandson following it through Mass.
My 7 year old son brings it to Mass every Sunday. He follows Mass along with this book. With this book, he said, the Mass is not that long. I'm so glad to hear that. Thank you Ascension!
We bought this for our granddaughter when she was five. She is now six and still pulls it out at Mass! It is a great learning tool and helps keep her occupied during Mass.
A mom saw us using the book and she thought it was so cool, she ordered one for her daughter.
This is a beautiful and comprehensive Mass guide for children. It would be perfect if it had the Mass responses. That you make it active guide for the Mass that the children could use on each Mass.
This book is a gem! It is very simple and engaging for kiddos, and for adults too! My only comment is that the price point is a bit high for a cardboard book. Maybe offering a bulk order discount, because I LOVE to gift this to young parents with littles attending Mass. A much better option than the snacks I see given during Mass.
Received the interactive mass book and it was defective. On page 3, the wheel did not turn, very disappointing because overall the book looks very helpful in explaining the mass. Where do I return it for a refund?
We’ve been using it at mass for the last 3 months, and my kids (age 3 & 5) still love it!
We love this book. We've owned it for a couple of years, and both of our kids enjoy being able to follow Mass in a step-by-step fashion. Our son, who is 5, is beginning to outgrow the board book format and flipping open flaps, but the content is still relevant to him. I follow along right with him - how many of us adults could use a simple, straightforward explanation for some of the prayers during the Eucharistic liturgy? It's great for the whole family, and sometimes we even end up giving it away to other families. Totally worth it!
I got this for my granddaughter so she would not be so restless in Mass.
I think that it is wonderful as did my son. I just gave it to him last week, so I don’t yet know how she liked it. I know that it will be a good start to her Catholic journey.
My grandson (6) loves this book - he can follow along easier, and he really loves the pages where they show images with the word, he tries to find the items (chalice, bells) when we go to church, and he loves visiting other parishes so he can find the items in their church. It made him start paying attention more for sure!
My friend at church has a grandson who is getting ready for his first holy communion, but is stlll very restless during Mass and she is very worried about him. So, I have not opened the book and cannot give a first hand review. But my friend has looked through it and is excited to show it to her grandson. I have not heard about his experience yet. I will try to edit this when I hear from my friend.
I purchased multiple copies of this wonderful book for our church children's library. It's definitely my "Go-To" Mass recommendation for families with young children! I really appreciate it when a book teaches the child and the parent simultaneously. The pages are sturdy, but be warned that the "turn the wheel" page won't last if your books gets LOTS of use like ours do . Ascension needs to improve & reinforce (create a STURDIER version of) the "spinning wheel"/"turn the wheel" page which shows the Order of the Mass on one side and the colors of the Liturgical Year on the reverse (pages 3-4). Maybe they could mount the "wheel" with an interior metal brad clip in the future? This book is recommended for ages 3+, but Ascension probably needs to add a warning note that *parental supervision is a must* for younger children who have a hard time working the spinning wheel. Without gentle handling, kids end up ripping the finger-edge outer part of the circle and/or making the circle itself come loose and go off track from its original interior mounting. We had some trouble with the "flaps" being lifted to roughly and thus being torn, too, so I'm having to add tape on every lift the flap in an effort to help the books last as long as possible. These books are so precious to me, so finding 4 of them damaged this month was like a blow to the heart in addition to the budget!
I purchased 2 copies for my 4 and 6 year old grandchildren, so they don't fight over one book. The 6 year old already reads, but really likes the vestments wheel. He showed our pastor his new book and was so excited to do so. His 4 year old sister pointed out each of the liturgical items she saw in the church and matched them up correctly with the pictures in the book.
I am so happy with this Mass book for young children. I bought it for our six-year-old grandson who has difficulty sitting still and paying attention during Mass. I am sure he will really like it. I know that he will enjoy reading the very clear, printed pages. The pictures and the lift-the-flap features will make it very fun and instructive for him. The Order of the Mass, with its accompanying wheel on page 3, is a great help.
I bought this for my 7 year old son but my teenage daughter is also using it during Mass. they have learned so much from it and now have a better understanding of the Mass order. I would definitely recommend this book as gifts.
I love this book. Nothing keeps my very active and distractible son in place and engaged, not even flipping through the hymnal.
He's learned the sign of the cross looking at this book on his own. The tactile nature of the pages, especially the parts of mass and the vestments wheel are very interesting for him. He loves to match up the vestments. He doesn't like turning the wheel for the mass parts because that changes the vestments, too.
Overall great resource. I like using it for praying the creed with him.
Hi,
I bought this for my 4 year old son. It’s a bit above his level with the text, but he does enjoy the order of the mass rolling wheel.
I have shown this book to friends of mine whose kids speak Spanish or are part of a bilingual household- they would like to get one like that. My son has a speech delay so I have to simplify the information for him to understand,- otherwise, we bring this book with us every mass and it’s been a great help for showing him a timeline of each part of the mass.
We absolutely love this book! My 3 yr old and my 7 year old enjoy following along with mass with this book! They love to find all the things in our church that are listed! Wonderful way to help them focus in mass!
I love this book for my twin granddaughters. We bring them to mass every week and it is difficult to keep them both quiet so that others can pay attention to the Mass. They love the lift the flap parts of the book. I especially like the page that has a rolling chart with the different vestments that Father wears for the different liturgical seasons. Thank you, thank you for helping to sell a book that adds to what they need to learn about the mass. I need to buy one for other children to take out of the "borrow" section of church so that they too can enjoy it. Next to the "My Little Church Magnet Play Set" this is my favorite.
My almost 5 year old grandson loves this book. It's a great way to introduce kids to the mass. The page that allows you to change the color of the priest's vestments is one of his favorites. It's also fun for him to find all the objests used in the celebration of mass. And I'm glad that it has prayers and responses included, because I think it will grow with him.
The book features interesting interactive pieces of information to keep the attention of "littles." Unfortunately, too often under the flap is merely a picture that fails to add detail and isn't worth visiting again and again. An even bigger disappointment is the fact that it ends with Eucharist and does not include our prayer, or the Concluding Rites. I gave several copies of this book as gifts, and am disappointed.
My kids and nieces LOVE to bring this book to church. In addition to helping them learn the different parts of the mass, it helps them feel "important" that they get to switch the number on one of the first pages to the part of mass that we are at. The "scavenger hunt" is also a great way to keep them interested in church!
My Goddaughter is 8 years old and we use this during mass. The words are nice and big which makes it easier to follow along with the prayers we say at mass. She also enjoys the lift the flap and asks me to guess what's under it (I thought she would be too old for this, but she likes it). She also enjoys changing the color of the priest's vestments and makes sure it's on the correct color. Last Sunday she and a friend got a little antsy so I had them searched for objects in our church (that page came in handy). Overall, this is a great book to start off with to help teach kids (and adults new to mass) the mass. I am recommending this book to others at our church.
This is by far the best mass book for toddlers and young children preparing for their 1st communion. I was the DRE for our parish for 17 years and I never came across a book that not only teaches the children about the mass but makes it exciting and fun to learn. I took it to mass this past Sunday and gave it to my 3 year old grandson and as he opens the pages he gasped in amazement and said “the same” as he pointed to the book and the alter, then again to the book then the priest and book to the crucification. He’s little eyes keep looking at the book and back to see what else was the same. He was in awe and his eyes shined brightly.
My granddaughter who is 7 and is going to make her first Holy Communion in May is now able to follow along reading all the prayers of the Mass!
With only watching the Mass live stream for more than a year she became quite bored and often fell asleep before the end of the Mass.
Now that I gave her this book and my daughter, her Godmother, is working with her and reading along with her she did not fall asleep and was engaged the whole Mass.
I would like to see a book with mostly pictures that my younger grandchildren could have and watch as they follow the Mass.
Our 4-year-old granddaughter absolutely loves using this book at every mass! It is really helping her follow along during mass, which brings such joy to her parents and her grandparents!
I bought this book for my 2 year old grandson and he loves it! He already knows the names of the sacramentals used on the altar, the liturgical colors and so much more! I would recommend this for any family with young children learning about the mass.
Love the book for my granddaughter, it holds her attention during Mass. Everything is high quality except the wheel for the priest vestments, it does not turn very well and gets stuck, frustrating for small hands.
My 2yo and 5yo love this book! It's super sturdy and has a lot of great content! Lots of pages - not like some board books that aren't worth the cost because they can be flipped through so quickly. This really keeps them engaged in the Mass and leads to interesting discussions every week, like what color the priest is wearing. Awesome job!
