Yes, the reading plan Father Mike will use for the podcast includes the entire Catholic Bible, cover to cover. Each episode will begin with Father reading 2-3 scripture passages, totaling approximately 10-15 minutes.

What Bible will Father Mike be using for the podcast?

Father Mike Schmitz will be reading from The Great Adventure Bible, which uses the Revised Standard Version- Second Catholic Edition (RSV-2CE) translation.

Is Jeff Cavins involved?

Yes, he serves as an advisor for the project and will also be appearing in a number of bonus episodes with Father Mike throughout the year! Father Mike studied the Bible under Jeff Cavins and will be drawing on the wealth of knowledge he has gained through The Great Adventure Bible Learning System.

Is there anything I need in order to follow along?

You will want to get the free reading plan by signing up at ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. You can find other helpful Bible resources like The Great Adventure Bible and the TGA Bible Timeline Chart on Ascension's website.

Do I have to use The Great Adventure Bible?

While you do not need a copy of The Great Adventure Bible (which uses the Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition for the Biblical texts) to follow along, it is the bible Father Mike Schmitz will use for the podcast. Please note there may be differences in the text if you are using a translation other than the RSV-Second Catholic Edition. Bible translations sometimes differ in word choices, and in chapter and verse numbers, as these are not always standardized between translations.

How long will the episodes be and what will they include?

The average daily episode will be between 20-25 minutes in length, depending on the scripture readings in the official Bible in a Year podcast reading plan. The first part of the episode will feature Father Mike reading from Scripture for 10-15 minutes, and the second part of each episode will include 8-10 minutes of commentary and reflection from Father Mike.

When will the first episode come out?

We will be releasing some preview content throughout the months of November and December, but the first official episode will be released on January 1, 2021.

Will the Podcast only be available for the year 2021?

The podcast will remain available in perpetuity through any podcast directory (e.g. Apple Podcasts/iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, Google podcasts, etc) and on the Ascension Media site after its launch.

If I miss an episode or fall behind listening, will I be lost?

The podcast is designed for you to follow along at your own pace. If you miss an episode or fall behind listening, you can pick up right where you left off and still complete the reading plan at your own leisure.

How does the Bible in a year work?

The Bible in a Year podcast is not a traditional Ascension Bible study. It is a free audio recording of the bible following a reading plan inspired by The Great Adventure Bible Timeline. The readings will be followed by a brief commentary by Father Mike Schmitz.
