The Ascension Catechism for Young Beginners Uses a Simple Q&A Format Created for a K-2 Reading Level.
[Exton, PA - June 29, 2026] Ascension is proud to announce the release of The Ascension Catechism for Young Beginners, the first-of-its-kind edition to present the entirety of the Catechism of the Catholic Church for children while preserving its structure and content. Using the Foundations of Faith color coded system, this Catechism follows all four pillars of the Faith: Creed, Sacraments, Life in Christ, and Prayer, to help children easily grasp the bigger picture.
“This Catechism was created to help children encounter the beauty and truth of the Catholic faith from the very beginning,” said Jonathan Strate, President and CEO of Ascension. “It fills an important need for an age-appropriate resource that makes the teachings of the Church accessible–whether at home, in the classroom, or as part of Ascension’s Pillars of Faith curriculum.”

Developed with the assistance of a reading-level specialist, The Ascension Catechism for Young Beginners uses a Q&A format to answer over 400 questions in a digestible way for children ages 5 and up. Illustrated with more than 175 pieces of sacred art as well as full-color pages, the imagery is intended to help young readers fully visualize the Church’s teachings. The Catechism also includes Bible connections, chapter vocabulary lists, and a glossary to provide additional context for words or stories children may be seeing for the first time.
Ideal for families, Catholic schools, parish religious education programs, homeschool communities, and catechists, this Catechism is available in both a Premium Edition and a Classroom Edition. The Premium Edition includes ribbon markers, a keepsake box, and a Catechism at a Glance Chart for Children, while the Classroom Edition features a hardbound leatherlike cover, full color interior, and the Foundations of Faith color-coding system. The Classroom Edition is available for bulk purchase.
The release marks the first installment in Ascension's planned children's Catechism series, which will expand to include The Ascension Catechism for Beginners (grades 3–5) and The Ascension Catechism for Youth (grades 6–8), providing a path for continued faith formation as children grow.
