When Your Mind Wanders in the Rosary

When Your Mind Wanders in the Rosary

Ascension Team

Do you ever find it difficult to pray the Rosary? In honor of the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, Dr. Sri reflects on the common challenges many of us experience in praying the Rosary and reminds us that even when our minds wander or we grow weary, the Rosary remains a profoundly sacred and powerful prayer.

Quotes

1. Luke 1:28

“And he came to her and said, ‘Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!’”
(Archangel Gabriel’s greeting to Mary at the Annunciation)

2. Luke 1:42

“And she exclaimed with a loud cry, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!’”
(Elizabeth’s greeting to Mary at the Visitation)

3. Philippians 2:10–11

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

(Referenced when discussing reverence for the name of Jesus in the Hail Mary)

4. Matthew 6:9–13 (The Lord’s Prayer)

“Pray then like this:
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.”

(Quoted as part of the Rosary’s foundational prayers)

5. The Glory Be (Doxology – Scripturally inspired, not a direct verse)

Although not a single verse, it’s rooted in multiple biblical passages:

  • Matthew 28:19: “...baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
  • Jude 25: “To the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”

Traditional form:

“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.”

The Hail Mary (Composed from Luke 1:28 and Luke 1:42)

“Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.”

(The second half — “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.” — is a later liturgical addition, not part of the biblical text.)
