Responding to the Holy Spirit

Responding to the Holy Spirit

Dr. Edward Sri

How do we live a life truly led by the Holy Spirit? Dr. Sri explains how Simeon illustrates for us what it looks like to be receptive to the Holy Spirit. Dr. Sri shares practical ways to become more like Simeon, such as asking for divine inspiration, showing gratitude for it, practicing trust and detachment, and maintaining interior peace.

The more we respond to the little things, the more the Holy Spirit will continue to extend his invitations.

Shownotes

Simeon: A Man Attune to the Holy Spirit

Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts.- Luke 2:25-27

 Quotes

"We should pay great attention to the inner inspirations and follow them faithfully and faithfulness to one grace attracts others."- St. Faustina

"When we profit from an inspiration that our Lord sends, he then sends another. And thus our Lord continues his graces as long as we continue to profit from them." - St. Francis De Sales

"What most draws down graces from our dear Lord is gratitude. For if we thank Him for a gift, He is touched and hastens to give us ten more. And if we thank Him again with the same sincerity, what an incalculable multiplication of graces."- St. Thérèse of Lisieux

How Do We Learn to Respond to the Holy Spirit?

  • Ask God for his inspirations and ask him to help you be aware of his promptings.
  • Thank God for his promptings.
  • Resolve to give him your fiat like our Blessed Mother. Be obedient to God's plans.
  • Trust and detachment. Let go of control!
  • Make space for interior silence so you can hear God's voice. Fr. Jacques Phillipe's book The School of the Holy Spirit is a great resource.
