Tips for Working Moms
1. Recognize that it is a lot.
Balancing work and homelife is a major undertaking. You can’t do everything and you can’t do it alone. Discern what you should do and what you can let go of. Seek the help you need to care for yourself and your family.
2. Find friends who get it.
Make sure you have people in your life that can relate to some of your unique struggles as a working mom. Seek out friendships with other women who share your life circumstances so you won’t feel so alone in it.
3. Remind yourself of the call to serve.
As a mom, you are called to serve your family. For some, that will mean full time at home, and for others it will mean working outside the home, working remotely, or some combination of these things. Your vocation is unique and if you are called to work right now, that is part of how you are serving your family.
4. Have some work-free time.
This might mean being disciplined about putting away your devices when you are home. You might need to talk with your manager about expectations for work connections while you are at home. It’s important to set some boundaries so that when you are home, you feel free to fully engage and relax with your family.
5. Seek your husband’s input.
If you do not have peace about your work situation, ask for your husband’s perspective on it. It is important to reassess your working situation as circumstances change. Your husband is an important part of that conversation.
6. Remember where you discern your self worth.
It is not in your status at work and it is not in your identity as a stay-at-home mom. It is in your identity as a daughter of God. Diving more deeply into that identity can help everything else fall into proper perspective.
Listener Question (37:03)
At the end of today’s show, Danielle shares a question from listener Jackie who wants to incorporate more Scripture in her daily prayer, but is not sure where to begin. Among other things, Danielle recommends the Bible in a Year podcast with Fr. Mike Schmitz.
