Description

The Received: Your Journey to First Communion Starter Pack provides all of the resources a leader needs to plan and implement Received. It contains:

  • The Online Leader's Access gives leaders access to a digital version of the Leader’s Guide as well as all of the student videos, the parent information session and materials, and the retreat guide and materials. This specially developed online access integrates the various resources per lesson to simplify lesson planning (assessments, lesson goals, activities, student workbook content with leader notes, etc.), making it easier than ever for leaders to plan and implement each lesson.
  • The Online Leader’s Certification is a six-session course that offers support for leaders to quickly and easily train their team to deliver both First Reconciliation and First Communion preparation. Your team will receive practical guidance on what to expect and how to respond to typical situations that are likely to arise. In the end, your team will come away with an increased sense of confidence and enthusiasm to serve the children and families in your program.
  • The Leader’s Guide provides an overview and an easy 7-step structure for every lesson, lesson objectives, and the complete Student Workbook content with wrap-around leader’s notes and interactive activities.
  • The Student Workbook is seamlessly integrated with the videos and includes 12 lessons with hands-on activities, prayers, saint connections, main teaching content, Visio Divina, Bible stories, car conversation, take-home activities, discussion questions, and more.
  • The Receiving Jesus: My Guide to the Mass take-with-you book helps children become comfortable going to Mass by showing them not only when to sit, stand, and kneel and what to say but also why we do the things we do at Mass. They’ll learn about the roles of the different people they see at Mass, like the ushers, lectors, cantors, deacons, and priests. This is the perfect book for them to bring to Mass!
  • The DVD Set provides twelve lessons (approximately 3-5 minutes each) and shares the story of Felicity as she prepares to receive her First Communion.
  • The Parent's Guide offers a simple way for parents to be involved in their child's formation and accompany their child throughout First Communion preparation. Each lesson in the child's workbook has a corresponding section in the Parent's Guide.
  • The Parent’s Certification Course provides four short sessions that offer spiritual encouragement and refreshment for parents, as well as guidance on how to help their child prepare for these important sacraments. The course includes a digital Parent's Guide. Each lesson in your child’s book has a corresponding section in the Parent's Guide. Parents receive a certificate of completion when they finish the course.
  • The Complete Prayer Card Set provides a single copy of the twenty-four prayer cards available, drawn from the 24 lessons in the Renewed and Received programs.

Surprised

I did not look forward to taking this course and getting a certificate - just so our 2nd grader could complete her first Reconciliation. I was very surprised how much I as a cradle Catholic, was shown a different way of looking at "confession". I was very moved by the presentation of the different individual presenters. AND I learned a lot to pass on not only to the 2nd grader but to her older and younger siblings and cousins. I truly appreciated this course and the insight I have gained from it.

Course Review

For any Catholic parent, this course can be a valuable investment in both personal and family spirituality. It provides helpful teachings that empower parents to confidently navigate the challenges of raising children in the faith and transform their families into more God-loving. This course serves as a powerful reminder of the family’s purpose and offers practical wisdom to live it out daily. I particularly enjoyed the videos, especially since I’m an auditory learner. The course personally moved me.

Good to do

I think this course is good to do because if parents take it to heart it makes the sacrament a big deal vs just going through the motions. I think it’s easy to fall into the trap of ‘well this is just the next step’ vs feeling so lucky and grateful to be given this gift.

The kids (and I) LOVE it.

We are homeschoolers and when I found this I knew we had to try it. We have done this course (and the 1st communion one) 3 times each because we enjoyed it so much!!

Loved it

I completed the course and loved the way it was explained. The words that moved me was” we confess and do the penance, where in the back father does a penance for us”

Great Program

I really liked how easy the videos were to understand. The way everyone explained their sections, made it really easy to follow. I liked the videos very much, they taught me a lot.

Beautiful and simple

This is a wonderful way to help kids understand the mass and prepares them to better participate in the celebration. My great niece and nephew love it!

Great resource!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed gong through the parent certification! There were a few points that didn’t quite apply to us since we are recent converts from the ACNA, (like the typical view of the sacrament being “hell-avoidance” as opposed to the gift it truly is). Otherwise it was great!

Great program, just need Parent Access

This program has been so fruitful for our Catechism families so far! One thing that would be helpful is to provide individual accounts for our families to complete the Parent Certification online. Many of our parents work schedules make it difficult for them to complete the course during specific meetings. Also, it would be helpful if the families had a login to complete lessons when the children are sick and cannot attend class.

Very comprehensive resource

The ascension workbook for myself was a thorough reminder of my Catholic faith. It helped me ask the right questions to my daughter. Her workbook was also a good mix of activities and reading. I will say some the chapters were very lengthy in the reading sections and could be reduced a bit. It was a lot to keep up with at times. All in all a wonderful resource for our family as my daughter prepares for Reconciliation.

A great program!

I’ve been using the Renewed & Received program at home with my 2nd and 3rd graders. As a parent, the lessons are just the right amount of time and are easy to follow. My kids enjoy the workbook activities, and they especially love the videos. My 3rd grader did First Communion prep last year, but I feel he is learning so much more through this program. Overall, this is a great, easy-to-use program, and my kids have learned so much about their faith and the sacraments!

It is a well-done useful resource in helping raise our little gifts from God in the beautiful truth that is our Catholic faith. Thank you, Ascension!

Great Book

This a great book/guide. I purchased it for myself. I take it to church with me every week and follow along. Maybe I'm a slow learner. I 'm enjoying mass much more with a clearer understanding. I highly recommend it.

I am a grandmother completing this for my grandson so not alot applied as we only have partial custody. Videos by Sr. and Fr. Mike were excellent. Worth listening to.

Pleased

The book is exactly what I hoped it would be, detailed with beautiful illustrations ready to catch the eye of a child. I have kids ranging from 8-14 years old and have all benefitted from this book! I suggest the purchase for your kids regardless if they have completed their sacraments. The detailed teachings are straight forward and easy to teach to children, heck, there was some things I didn't know myself. I can now feel confident my children have a better understanding of mass and how everything we do is for a purpose. God is good! Thank you Ascension for the products you have created bringing us closer to the Lord ❤️🙏

Beautiful but cumbersome text

I wanted so, so much to love this Sacrament prep program. The Renewed books are aesthetically pleasing, the videos are sweet but not to corny, and the content showcases the depth and richness of Catholic teaching. I so appreciate that it doesn't "dumb down" Catholicism (kids know when they're being talked down to!) and that the photography doesn't look like it's from the 1990s (a major problem with a lot of "up-to-date" programs).

Unfortunately, I found the content poorly organized, especially considering that most readers will be kids age 7-8. There is just too much text and too many terms in each chapter, and it's not logically organized. For example-- Unit 3 bolds "Anointing of the Sick" as a key term, but the concept of sacrament isn't really introduced and certainly not explained until Unit 4. Perhaps the main issue here is that the book presupposes too much knowledge on the part of the student. It's just not organized in a way that I think would be accessible to your average 2nd grader.

Receiving Jesus: my guide to the mass

I felt this book was very well done and clear for the intended age groups. The text anticipated a number of questions kids are likely to wonder about even if they don’t ask them. I bought this for a grandson who was not ready for First. Communion this year and needed extra preparation. My only concern was cost because (of my 15 grandkids) sip many of them could benefit from this booklet.

Great for what it does

Great little book to explain what is going on during Mass. it’s great for what it does but I’m looking for something more— a book for young adults (Catholic or otherwise) who are attending Mass with a significant other. My daughter will try to quickly explain what is happening during Mass to her boyfriend. A pocket guide would be a nice option for him!

The content is nice but the digital format is hard to use

The digital format does not provide an easy page layout to read the text online. There are mazes and word searches that do not have the tools embedded to complete online and the page cannot be printed out. I am hoping this will be modified as the program comes out further.
