Louie's Lent
Louie's Lent
Through Louie’s Lent, kids will experience Matthew 9:13: “Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’”
This hardcover children’s book encourages children to prepare for Lent and understand that it is not just sacrifices of candy or toys, but of ourselves that can please God.
When little Louie sees his classmates giving something up for Lent, he’s stumped on what to do himself. While the other students undertake their Lenten resolutions, he embarks on a different course of action - giving of himself to support his classmates in their sacrifices.
Go into this Lent with renewed passion and purpose with this inspiring children’s book. Young Catholics aged 4–8 years old will be engaged by the beautiful, full-color illustrations on every page and lively storytelling.

Sorry, I found it corny. I prefer a more realistic story and dialog; how children actually talk. The artwork was also kinda blah and not interesting. Overall, the book came across as not much thought was given to the story or the artwork.
Don't mean to be unkind, I'm sure the authors motives were good, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Peace
This story of Louie's lent addresses the question that each of us asks on Ash Wednesday, "What am I doing for Lent?" Claudia masterfully takes her readers to the heart of the matter through Louie's encounters with his schoolmates. Loving and sacrificing for others is a beautiful way to imitate Christ and grow closer to God. This is a perfect book not only for Lent but for all seasons!
This is a beautiful story about Lent. It takes place in a Catholic School and explains what Lent is all about in language the children can understand. I read this to my first graders every year. It not only helps them understand what Lent is about, it captures their attention because the children are in a uniform and the classroom looks like ours. Every year the students get excited and say, "We have a cruifix, statue, prayer table etc. They also comment on the uniforms. Thank you for making a beautiful book in a Catholic School setting. These are very hard to come by. Please make more,..Maybe Ann's Advent ;)
This book is awesome! It was exactly what I was hoping for to help me better explain personal sacrifice to my children, both for Lent and otherwise. They hear me say "offer it up" often and this gives them a concrete picture by showing other kids doing that very thing. Sr. Mary Lawrence as Louie's teacher hits particularly close to my heart as I was also taught by Dominican sisters. Thank you, Ascension, for once again helping us form the next generation of Catholics.
This book really helped my boys, 10, 8 & 6, to see there is more to Lent then giving up sweets. Great story with so much meaning.
