Author

Nichelle Soriano Torno is passionate about sharing her Catholic faith with young people and their families. She first grew in her relationship with God after encountering Christ in Adoration on a high school retreat. Through this experience, she discovered her identity and worth as a beloved daughter of God and became assured of his presence and guidance in her life. She began to serve the Church as a teen, and later as a young adult student leader through her college campus ministry.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communicology and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Nichelle’s passion for sharing the faith led her to professional youth and young adult ministry. Now a mother, she realizes how important it is to help raise children in the faith, which is what inspired her new book with Ascension: A Place for Me in God’s Family Tree. In this book, she teams up with her cousin, Jordan Vicente Yango, who brings her words to life with his whimsical illustrations.

Nichelle, her husband and her son live and play on the beautiful island of Oahu in Hawaii.

Jordan Vicente Yango

Jordan is an up and coming illustrator currently serving the Lord in lay ministry with youth in Seattle. While growing up in a Filipino-American family, Jordan was exposed to the beauties of Catholicism throughout his life, but he didn’t truly practice or understand his faith until he began exploring it in college. Through the University of Washington’s Newman Center and under the guidance of his peers and local Dominican Friars, Jordan experienced a radical conversion. During his senior year, he served as a peer minister at the Newman Center. Upon graduation, Jordan began his career in lay ministry in the Archdiocese of Seattle, where he currently serves as Youth Minister at St. Charles Borromeo Parish.

I love this book! With captivating illustrations and inclusive representation, the fascinating and inspiring cast of characters from Jesus’ lineage come to life. Who knew that a genealogy could inspire so much faith! My kids love looking at the vibrant art and I love knowing that I'm reading sound theology that helps our family grow.

Best Book to Teach About God’s Family, Our Family!

A Place for Me in God’s Family takes you through the very complicated family tree of Jesus but is explained so well for young ones to understand. The story and illustrations capture you and I can’t wait to read it to all my students and God-children so they know they are special and have a place in God’s family!

Wow! What a beautifully written and illustrated book! I love how it connects to The Bible in a Year and Bible Timeline Learning System, but moreso it brings God's beautiful story to life through a children's eyes. I have not read the bible fully yet but after reading this on my own and reading to my daughter, I am ready to begin that journey and better dive into our Catholic faith better. It truly does remind us of God's love for us and the journey that we all are on and are called by God to do his will and bring everyone to know God's family tree!

There is no other book that can simply depict who God / Jesus is in such a real, yet simple and heart warming way, thanks to the illustrations! A must get especially for young Christians, but really for all people wanting to discover and even learn more about what faith means through the story of how Jesus came to be son of living man!
