Fr. Dr. Christiaan Kappes is a Catholic priest and theologian with a passion for helping Catholics understand the historical and theological relationship between the Byzantine East and the Latin West. His research and teaching explore the philosophical and theological crosscurrents between these traditions from the earliest centuries of Christianity.
Fr. Kappes was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He earned advanced degrees in theology and has dedicated his academic work to studying the development of doctrine, the interaction between Eastern and Western Christian traditions, and the historical reception of Catholic teaching. He currently serves as a professor at the Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Saints Cyril and Methodius, where he teaches seminarians and helps prepare future priests for ministry in the Byzantine Catholic Church.
With Ascension, Fr. Kappes is a presenter for Foundations of Faith: A Journey Through the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Fr. Kappes continues his work in teaching, research, and priestly ministry while remaining active in academic and pastoral formation.
