The Father's Mercy Throughout Salvation History

Looking to the Book of Exodus, God reveals Himself as a loving Father who rescues His people, remains faithful despite their repeated failures, and proclaims Himself to be "merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love." Even Israel's greatest sins do not diminish the Father's mercy.

Why God Gave the Law

The purpose of the Law was not simply to establish rules but to reveal humanity's need for God's grace. Quoting St. Augustine, he emphasizes that "the law was given so that grace might be sought," preparing God's people to recognize their need for the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.

A New Heart Through the Holy Spirit

God's promise in Deuteronomy to "circumcise the heart" points forward to the coming of Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Rather than changing us only through external commandments, God heals and transforms us from within, giving us the grace to love Him and live according to His will.

Jesus Reveals the Eternal Father

Jesus uniquely reveals the Father—not simply as Creator, but as the eternal Father whose relationship with the Son has existed from all eternity. Through Christ, we come to know the Father's heart and are invited into the very life of the Trinity.
