The Value of Failing

The Value of Failing

Do you ever feel like you are failing or coming up short in the different areas of your life? Perhaps, you are struggling at work or in your marriage. In this episode, Dr. Edward Sri uses the wisdom of St. Thérèse of Lisieux to reveal the goodness that can come from acknowledging our failings and shortcomings.

Snippet from the Show
When we encounter our weaknesses and shortcomings, it reminds us, “Lord, I need you.”

30 Day Prayer Challenge

Join Dr. Edward Sri on a 30 day prayer challenge starting October 1st. The prayer challenge involves praying 15-20 minutes each day using either Sacred Scripture, the writings of a saint, or Dr. Sri’s book When You Pray. Dr. Sri will go live on Monday, October 2nd on Facebook to offer reflection and insight for the challenge.

St. Thérèse of Lisieux

You may have seen a number of images and statues of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Typically, she is holding roses and has a rather demure smile on her face. You may also recall her as the saint who discovered the “Little Way.” Sometimes, St. Thérèse can be a little underwhelming…on the surface. Upon delving into her life and reading her writings, it is quickly apparent that St. Thérèse was anything but underwhelming. Her interior life, her relationship with God, her understanding of the spiritual life are all so incredible that she is, of course, a canonized saint but also a doctor of the Church.

“Love My Littleness”

St. Thérèse writes frequently about her littleness. St. Thérèse understood her dependence on God. She knew that it was impossible for her to overcome sin without the help of God. Humility was a virtue that she greatly desired in order to draw closer to God. For St. Thérèse, there were two essentials: surrender and trust.

When You Pray: A Clear Path to a Deeper Relationship with God

You know prayer is important but still find it challenging. Perhaps it’s hard to find time, or you’re unsure what to do when you pray. Or maybe you feel discouraged by your weaknesses and your inability to overcome them.

If you have any of these feelings, you are not alone. Many of the saints struggled in prayer. They were like us. But each time they fell, they got up again and learned to rely more on God’s grace.

What God did in the lives of countless saints, he wants to do in the lives of ordinary people like us. And that’s what this study is about: the journey of prayer God wants to take us on.

Authored and presented by Dr. Edward Sri, When You Pray also features Fr. Jacques Philippe, Fr. Josh Johnson, Fr. Gregory Pine, Sister Josephine Garrett, Fr. Donald Haggerty, and Sister Maris Stella.
