The 3 Prophecies of Isaiah Fulfilled

The 3 Prophecies of Isaiah Fulfilled

Ascension Team

Do you know the three great prophecies of Isaiah about the coming of the Christ child? Dr. Sri explains the three profound Messianic prophecies of Isaiah—chapters 7, 9, and 11—and their fulfillment in the Child Jesus. From Emmanuel, God with us, to the light shining in Galilee, and the branch from the stump of Jesse, these prophecies reveal God’s incredible fidelity to His covenant and offer us great hope for our lives.

The Three Prophecies the Child Jesus Fulfills

1. Isaiah 7 – Emmanuel: God With Us

Isaiah foretells that a virgin will conceive and bear a son, and that his name will be Emmanuel, meaning “God with us” (Isaiah 7:14). This prophecy is fulfilled in the virginal conception of Jesus, revealed to Joseph in a dream and explicitly connected to Isaiah by Matthew’s Gospel (Matthew 1:22–23). In Jesus, God does not merely help His people from afar—He enters human history, taking on our weakness and suffering to dwell among us.

2. Isaiah 9 – A Child Born to Reign Forever

Isaiah proclaims that a child will be born who brings light to those walking in darkness, especially in Galilee (Isaiah 9:1–2). This child is given divine titles—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace—and His kingdom will have no end (Isaiah 9:6–7). Jesus fulfills this prophecy by beginning His ministry in Galilee and establishing an eternal kingdom, not through political power, but through divine authority, mercy, and peace.

3. Isaiah 11 – The Branch from the Stump of Jesse

Isaiah promises that from the seemingly dead stump of Jesse, the father of David, a new branch will arise (Isaiah 11:1). This child-king will be filled with the Spirit of the Lord and will usher in a reign of justice, harmony, and peace, where even creation is restored (Isaiah 11:2–9). Jesus, born into the line of David, fulfills this hope as the long-awaited Messiah who restores God’s people and brings lasting peace—a little child who leads the nations back to God.

Scripture Verses Mentioned

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Matthew 1:18–23

Joseph’s dream and Matthew’s explicit connection between the virgin birth of Jesus and the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14, emphasizing that this event fulfills what the Lord spoke through the prophet.

God’s covenant with David, promising that his dynasty would endure and that God would be “with” his kingdom.

Isaiah 9:1–7

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light…”
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given… and his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace… of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.”
