Shownotes

2 Samuel 23:8–12

8 These are the names of the mighty men whom David had:
Josheb‑Basshebeth, a Tahchemonite, chief of the three; he raised his spear against eight hundred slain by him at one time.
9 After him was Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas‑dammim.
10 He rose and struck the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clung to the sword. And the Lord wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to strip the slain.
11 Then the lamed–beth went down and struck the Philistines at Gob, and the Lord saved them by a great victory.
12 Three of the thirty chief went down to the rock to David, at the hold. The Philistines were there camped in the valley of Rephaim. 13 And David was then in the hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was at Bethlehem. 14 David said longingly, “Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem which is by the gate!”  15 And the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water out of the well of Bethlehem—which was by the gate—and took it and brought it to David; but David would not drink of it; he poured it out to the Lord,
16 saying, “Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this!” And he would not drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty men. (verses 8–12 in RSV; verses 13–16 included for context)

Philippians 4:12–13

12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13 (standalone)

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

1 Corinthians 12:11–12

11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.

Hebrews 12:1–3

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
2 looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

1 Corinthians 10:31

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Romans 8:35–39

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
36 As it is written,
                       “For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

James 1:2–4

2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
