Advent/ Christmas Series EP 5: Healing Begins With Listening

Advent/ Christmas Series EP 5: Healing Begins With Listening

Ascension Team

What if healing doesn’t begin with advice, answers, or fixing—but simply with being listened to? The Sisters reflect on the profound truth that listening itself is healing. Sr. Mary Grace, Sr. Cora Caeli, and Sr. Magnificat Rose explore how being truly heard can calm fear, restore dignity, and open hearts to new life.

Shownotes

Scripture References

  • Luke 8:43–48The woman with the hemorrhage: Jesus pauses to ask, “Who touched me?” giving space not only for healing but for her story to be heard.
  • Luke 2:48–49The boy Jesus in the temple: Jesus responds to Mary and Joseph with a gentle question, inviting dialogue rather than explanation.
  • Mark 10:51“What do you want me to do for you?”: Jesus’ question reveals His desire to listen and engage personally.
  • Matthew 1:23“Emmanuel… God with us”: God’s nearness includes His attentive presence and listening heart.

Challenges for the New Year

  1. As you enter your next conversation, pause and ask yourself: Am I choosing to listen? Be courageous not only in sharing your thoughts, but also in creating space to truly hear the other—whether it’s a family member, a coworker, or someone you live with. Turn on an inner attentiveness. Listen without rushing to respond or fix. Notice what the other person is saying, what’s beneath their words, and what stirs in your own heart. In that space, you may hear God moving, learn something you couldn’t have discovered on your own.

  2. Pick a new Marian image in the new year and entrust your prayers to her. Allow our Lady to listen to you.

  3. Take a couple of minutes every day to lie down and "just be". Allow yourself a space in the day to "just be" with the Lord so you can listen to him and he can listen to you.
