Dedicate your home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus with new and reverent sacred art from New Jerusalem Studios.
As the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops dedicates the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the occasion of the country’s 250th anniversary, Ascension has partnered with artist Ruth Stricklin of New Jerusalem Studios to make widely available her beautiful depiction of the Sacred Heart, ideal for enthroning at home or in the workplace.
As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “The prayer of the Church venerates and honors the Heart of Jesus just as it invokes his most holy name. It adores the incarnate Word and his Heart which, out of love for men, he allowed to be pierced by our sins” (CCC 2669).
These prints are based on an original work of sacred art that was painted in acrylic on fine wood panel with gold leaf accents, and which measures 3 feet by 4 1/2 feet. It was commissioned by Fr. Brian Phillips, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange, Texas.
The work depicts in traditional detail the vision of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, wherein Christ explained the immense love he has for humanity, appearing with his heart visible outside his chest, on fire, and surrounded by a crown of thorns.
In this work, the artist employed a pseudo-iconographic style, presenting Christ illuminated by divine light, stylized garments, and yet slightly more naturalist facial features, depicting the tender love of Christ, poured out. Following the traditional techniques of sacred iconography, the image is “written” in thin layers of glaze from dark to light, and the original features a 24K gold background. (Note: reproduction prints do not have actual gold leaf.)
This magnificent image will encourage a deepening of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so that viewers may better enjoy his great promises of grace and mercy.
