The forthcoming Catholic American Bible is an update to the current New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE) building upon decades of scholarly work to provide a translation that is perfect for prayer and study and approved for liturgical use.

[Exton, PA - November 11, 2025] — The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has selected Ascension as one of their publishers for the new Liturgical Edition of the New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE). As the new Liturgical Edition, the Catholic American Bible (CAB) will replace the NABRE as the translation read and used in the Roman Rite of the Catholic Mass in the United States.
This forthcoming edition marks a historic milestone in the Church’s ongoing effort to ensure that the Word of God is proclaimed with clarity, reverence, and beauty. Building upon the NABRE, released in 2010, the Catholic American Bible will incorporate decades of scholarship and refinement, uniting accuracy with accessibility for both liturgical and personal use.
“We are honored to be selected by the USCCB to publish the new Catholic American Bible,” said Jonathan Strate, President and CEO of Ascension. “At Ascension, our mission has always been to help Catholics encounter God’s Word in ways that are meaningful, prayerful, and transformative. We’re grateful for the opportunity to share this new edition and help Catholics deepen their experience of Scripture.”
The CAB features a modified version of the Old Testament from the NABRE, with the Book of Psalms replaced by the Abbey Psalms and Canticles alongside a new introduction and notes, a newly revised New Testament, and appendices to both the Old and New Testaments containing the Abbey Psalms and Canticles.
The USCCB received the required confirmato from the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in Rome for the English translation of the Old and New Testaments for liturgical use earlier this year. Archbishop Broglio, the President of the USCCB, subsequently signed the canonical rescript on September 30, 2025. The CAB is the translation that will be used in the Liturgy of the Hours, Second Edition, of which Ascension will also be one of the publishers.
Ascension will publish the Catholic American Bible in various print formats, including paperback, leatherlike, large print, premium, and digital, continuing its mission to help Catholics encounter the Word of God in a deeply personal and transformative way.
