Who Missed Easter?

Who Missed Easter?

As the Church gets ready to celebrate Easter— Jeff calls us to remember those who are absent—family members, friends, and neighbors who are not present at Mass and may be far from the faith. Jeff invites us to reach out to them and emphasizes that the Resurrection is not only something to celebrate—it’s a mission to live.

Shownotes

1. The Resurrection Is Central to Our Faith

  • As taught in First Corinthians 15, the Resurrection is essential—without it, our faith is in vain.
  • Easter is not just symbolic; it is the foundation of Christian hope and salvation.

2. Ask the Question: “Who Missed Easter?”

  • Think intentionally about people in your life who were absent this Easter.
  • This includes family members, coworkers, and friends who may have drifted from the Church.

3. The Parable of the Lost Sheep Is Our Mission

  • In Gospel of Matthew 18 and Gospel of Luke 15, Jesus reveals the heart of the Good Shepherd.
  • He leaves the 99 to seek the one—showing that every soul matters deeply to God.
  • This mission now belongs to us as members of His Body.

4. Jesus Seeks the Lost Through the Church

  • Christ works through His Body—the Church—to reach others.
  • We are His hands, feet, voice, and heart in the world.

5. Avoid Judgment—Choose Compassion

  • Instead of assuming why someone is absent, approach them with love and curiosity.
  • A hardened attitude pushes people away; compassion draws them in.

6. “Cross the Threshold of Disparity”

  • Be willing to step into someone else’s life with courage.
  • This can be as simple as asking a question, listening, or showing care during a difficult moment.

7. The Church Must Be Intentional About Evangelization

  • Don’t assume “someone else” will reach out.
  • Begin praying and thinking now about inviting someone back before next Easter.
  • Consider how processes like OCIA help welcome people into the Church.

8. The Power of the Resurrection Sends Us Out

  • The same power that raised Christ gives us boldness to witness.
  • As echoed in First Epistle of John, perfect love casts out fear—so we should not be afraid to share the Gospel.

9. A Message to the “Lost Sheep”
If someone feels far from the Church, remember:

  • You are loved
  • You are valuable
  • You are important
  • You are needed
  • You are precious

10. Easter Is the Beginning of the Mission

  • Celebrate the Resurrection—but also carry its mission forward.
  • Let this Easter spark a commitment to seek the one who is missing.

Reflection Question:
Who is the “one” in your life that the Lord is calling you to seek, love, and invite back home?
