Trusting the Father's Heart

Trusting the Father's Heart

Do you really believe in the Father's love for you?  The devil's main tactic is to sow doubt in our hearts about God the Father—causing us to question the Father’s goodness, His love, and His care for us. Dr. Sri explains how  to grow in greater trust in our Heavenly Father and surrender our lives into His powerful hands.

Shownotes

The Father Gives Us Shalom

God created humanity to live in shalom—a state of peace, wholeness, and right relationship. Before the Fall, Adam and Eve enjoyed four levels of harmony:

  • Harmony with God
  • Harmony within themselves
  • Harmony with one another
  • Harmony with creation

Sin shattered this original harmony, but God's plan of salvation seeks to restore it.

The Father's Authority Is Meant to Help Us Flourish

Modern culture often views authority as control or domination. Scripture presents authority differently. True authority exists to cultivate growth and help others become who God created them to be.

Like a gardener tending a garden, God the Father orders creation so that His children can flourish according to His loving plan.

God Respects and Delights in Human Freedom

The Father does not desire forced obedience. He wants our freely given love.

Dr. Sri reflects on Michelangelo's famous image of the creation of Adam, highlighting how God eagerly reaches toward humanity while respecting our freedom to respond.

Love requires freedom, and God takes the risk of allowing us to choose Him—or reject Him.

The Vulnerability of God's Love

One of the most moving themes of this episode is the vulnerability of God.

From creation, to granting free will, to the Incarnation and the Cross, God continually pours Himself out in love. The Father risks rejection because He desires authentic relationship with His children.

This divine self-giving reaches its climax in Jesus Christ, who suffers rejection, misunderstanding, and death out of love for us.

The Devil's Primary Strategy: Undermine Trust in the Father

The serpent's temptation in Eden was not simply about breaking a rule.

Instead, Satan sought to convince Adam and Eve that God was not trustworthy, that He was withholding something good, and that His commands were restrictive rather than life-giving.

At the heart of every temptation is the same question:

"Can I really trust the Father?"

  • Genesis 3:1-7

  • CCC 397

"Man, tempted by the devil, let his trust in his Creator die in his heart." (CCC 397)

Sin Is More Than Breaking Rules

Drawing on the teachings of St. John Paul II, Dr. Sri explains that sin is not merely the violation of a commandment. It is ultimately a rejection of the Father's loving will expressed through that commandment.

God's laws are not arbitrary restrictions; they are expressions of His love and concern for our flourishing.

When we sin, we are not simply breaking a rule—we are doubting the goodness of the Father who gave it.

Looking Ahead: The Father's Mercy

Although sin shattered humanity's original harmony with God, the Father's response is not abandonment but mercy.

Next week's episode will explore how God's mercy reveals an even deeper dimension of His Fatherhood and how Christ restores the shalom lost through sin.

Memorable Takeaway

"The devil's greatest strategy is not simply getting us to break God's laws—it is getting us to doubt the Father's love."
