10 Pillars of Missionary Discipleship
Ascension TeamIn this final episode of the season, Dave offers a clear and compelling roadmap for living as a missionary disciple in everyday life. Drawing from the wisdom of evangelization movements and his own pastoral experience, he unpacks ten essential principles—from a personal encounter with Jesus Christ to bold proclamation, sacramental living, and reliance on the Holy Spirit.
Shownotes
1. Mission Begins with Encounter
Missionary discipleship is rooted in a real, personal encounter with Jesus Christ—not just knowledge about Him, but relationship with Him.
2. Every Baptized Person Is Sent
Evangelization isn’t reserved for priests or missionaries abroad. Every baptized Catholic is called and sent to share the Gospel.
3. The Sacraments Are the Source
Our mission flows from the Eucharist, Confession, and the sacramental life. We bring others to Christ best when we are rooted in Him.
4. The Church Is Missionary by Nature
We are not meant to wait for people to come to us. The Church goes out—this is the heart of the Great Commission.
5. Witness AND Words Matter
A credible life matters—but so does clearly proclaiming the Gospel. We need both lived witness and spoken truth.
6. Boldness Is Essential Today
In a culture that often opposes Catholic teaching, we are called to speak with courage, clarity, and charity.
7. Relationships Drive Evangelization
True evangelization happens through accompaniment—walking with people, not treating them like projects.
8. Ongoing Conversion Is Non-Negotiable
We can’t give what we don’t have. A life of continual conversion and holiness is the foundation of fruitful mission.
9. Love for the Poor (in All Forms)
Poverty isn’t only material. Spiritual, emotional, and relational poverty are everywhere—and we are called to respond.
10. Total Reliance on the Holy Spirit
Evangelization is not a technique—it’s cooperation with the Holy Spirit. Prayer and attentiveness to His promptings are essential.
Practical Challenges
-
Pray daily:
“Lord, if you put someone in my path today, I will share what you’ve done in my life.” -
Ask for a missionary heart:
“Lord, break my heart for what breaks yours.” -
Start at home:
Your first mission field is your family, your workplace, and the people directly in front of you.
