Embark on a spiritual pilgrimage to Assisi, a place where great saints were made

Enter Assisi takes you through the gates of the medieval city where St. Francis and St. Clare lived, prayed, and founded a new way of following Christ. Within its ancient walls, your imagination becomes a doorway to spiritual holy ground.

Walk the streets of St. Clare's midnight journey to the Moiano gate and down to St. Mary of the Angels, where Francis and his brothers welcomed her into religious life. Sit in the caves of the Carceri and reflect on the gift of solitude. Meet twentieth century residents of Assisi who carry the Franciscan spirit forward today.

Drawing on more than three decades leading pilgrimages to Assisi, Fr. Bodo brings the hometown of St. Francis to life with the voice of a poet and spiritual director, guiding you toward greater simplicity, devotion, and joy in your own walk with Christ.

In this book, you will:

Encounter the enduring witness of St. Francis and St. Clare through the places that shaped their lives
Use the sacred sites of Assisi as gateways to deeper prayer and spiritual renewal

Fr. Murray Bodo, O.F.M., is a Franciscan priest, poet, and one of the most beloved spiritual writers in the Franciscan tradition. A friar for more than six decades, he has served as a teacher, writer-in-residence, and for many years led summer pilgrimages to Assisi, immersing pilgrims in the world of St. Francis and St. Clare. His dozens of books include Clare: A Light in the Garden, The Way of St. Francis, and collections of poetry — but he is best known for Francis: The Journey and the Dream, the lyrical life of St. Francis that has moved readers for over fifty years and sold hundreds of thousands of copies.

Ascension is proud to publish Francis: The Journey and the Dream for a new generation, making Fr. Bodo’s poetic masterpiece on the saint of Assisi available through its Ascension author collection.
