Day 25: The Cloud of Witnesses

Eucharistic Prayer One includes a long list of saints and martyrs: “the glorious ever-Virgin Mary, and blessed Joseph, her Spouse, your blessed Apostles and Martyrs, Peter and Paul, Andrew, James, John, Thomas, James, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Simon and Jude: Linus, Cletus, Clement, Sixtus, Cornelius, Cyprian, Lawrence, Chrysogonus, John and Paul, Cosmas and Damian... John the Baptist, Stephen, Matthias, Barnabas, Ignatius, Alexander, Marcellinus, Peter, Felicity, Perpetua, Agatha, Lucy, Agnes, Cecilia, Anastasia and all your Saints.” Who were these saints? Some, like Mary and Joseph, Peter and Paul might be familiar, but others might be new to us. In today’s episode, Dr. Sri explains who these saints are, and why they’re included in the Eucharistic Prayer. We conclude with a reminder that we’re not alone, we have a cloud of witnesses praying for us and helping us to persevere.

How can remembering the “cloud of witnesses” encourage you in your own journey of faith?Which saint’s story or example inspires you most, and how might you imitate their courage and faithfulness? How can you more intentionally call upon the saints to intercede for you and walk with you in your daily life?
