Description

Invitado: tu camino hacia la fe católica – Guía del participante

Throughout the process, catechumens and candidates will explore and learn what the Catholic Church teaches, learn how to encounter God through the sacraments and the Church, as well as learn how to live out their faith and form a real, personal relationship with the Lord.

Covering 28 lessons, the Participant's Guide is designed to guide participants through each stage of the OCIA journey and support the teaching they receive in your meetings.

Written in an accessible and welcoming tone, each lesson delivers sound Catholic Teaching, grounded in Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, inviting them to learn, pray, reflect, and respond.

Throughout the guide, sidebars direct participants to additional videos, podcast episodes, and blog posts available at no cost through the Ascension App.

Each lesson includes:

  • Opening and closing prayers drawn from the Catholic tradition
  • A couple of burning questions to begin connecting the mind and the heart.
  • A saint's story that brings doctrine to lived experience
  • The main Catholic teaching presented in clear, accessible prose grounded in Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church
  • Sidebars linking to additional videos, podcast episodes, and blog posts available at no cost through the Ascension App
  • Reflection questions and discussion prompts to help participants engage personally with the material.
  • Vocabulary that introduces participants to the language of Catholic life and liturgy.
  • Practical weekly activities that help participants move from learning to living.
  • A prayer, devotion, or practice from the Catholic tradition to take home and make their own

Fred Shellabarger

With over twenty years of ministry experience, Fred Shellabarger has dedicated his life to helping others encounter the redeeming love of Christ. For more than eight years, he served the Diocese of Sioux City as Director of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Family Life, supporting pastors and parish leaders in forming disciples and strengthening parish life. He now serves at Mater Dei Parish in Sioux City, where he helps others grow in faith and deepen their relationship with Christ. As co-founder of Draw Near and co-host of its podcast, Fred strives to create spaces where people feel loved, valued, and seen; to help ignite hearts with the love of God.

He and his wife of twenty years are the proud parents of seven children whose joy, creativity, and faith continually remind him of God’s goodness. Fred’s life and ministry are shaped by one conviction: no wound is too deep, no situation too broken, and no heart too distant for the transforming love of Christ.
