I am half way through reading this book and am really enjoying it as an adult who has returned to practicing my faith again. It’s simple to understand stories are a good way to learn and I love the pictures. I think it’s still too advanced for my seven year old though. Maybe good for about 10 years plus. Still takes a lot of advanced comprehension to understand the storyline.
I wanted to make sure that my great niece and nephew had access to the best kids' bible. What a gorgeous and amazing way to help kids a head start in bible study. This makes it accessible and simple while also offering a Catholic bible for kids.
Bought this for my 6 year old because she had been begging for a new Bible. Even though this says its for 8 to 12 year olds, she loves hearing the stories in this Bible and loves looking at the pictures. I would highly recommend to any parents looking for a Bible for their elementary age kids!
I Was looking for a Bible for my 6 year old granddaughter and wanted something she could enjoy for a few years. I Was surprised upon receiving it. She’s had other bubbles before but none Was as explanatory Abba easy to understand as this Bible is. She can sit for a little over an hour having me read to her Then she looks to take over Abba tries to reread it herself.
This book is NOT for 8 year olds -- they want more pictures. Maybe good for 12 year olds....
Anyway, just not what I expected for that reason. I have 3rd grade CCD.....this is NOT going to grab their attention, no matter how good the text is.
I have a couple of children's bibles and the Maccabean period is given short shrift; a paragraph at best in the best of them. I bought this bible specifically because it is so difficult to find good stories of the entire OT cannon.
This is a bible written like a children's book, so the language is easy enough for 3rd grader to read. The stories are simple enough to be understood by younger children, and it is a sufficiently quick read for adults who have not made it past the Pentateuch.
Catholic Bible Chronicles would make a wonderful gift as well as being a staple in any young Catholic family's library.
Reading this to my 6- and 8-year-old granddaughters whenever I see them. Book is beautiful. Stories exactly the right length. The 6-year-old ASKS to read the Bible when I see her! 🎉
Beautiful and well-written, but excessively Old Testament-heavy. The New Testament comprises only one-third of the entire book and is heavily synthesized, with relatively few individual stories. The overall sense of the New Testament portion is less “chronicles” and more history/theology text. Disappointing.
I purchased this for a first communion gift and will be getting another one for my children! I love the way it is laid out and so clearly tells the story of salvation. Highly recommend!
I have purchased four of these books in the last few months for my three girls and nephew for first communion- they are accessible Bible stories that are easy to understand yet advanced enough from toddler bibles we had at home- it’s been a great transition Bible and we have had many good conversations about events in the Bible’s history- thank you for this version! I love the adults great Adventure Bible and now the kids as well.
I purchased this book to read with my children at the beginning of Lent this year, and have been so pleased with the content and format! It is perfect for nightly reading, and all of my children - age 8 - 14 - are enjoying it. I can tell they are putting the knowledge and stories that they've learned over the years into chronological order and understanding the meaning better than ever. This will be my new go-to gift for sacraments.
We wanted to get a Bible for our son for his baptism. In my experience, children’s Bibles are either too complicated or too simple. I wanted a Bible that would last for him from when he was old enough to sit and listen to a book to when could read the stories himself. This is just the Bible! It includes many stories that follow the timeline of The Bible in a Year. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, and that was important to me. I like that the stories are the “highlights” of the Bible, AND they include a summary/explanation toward the end, much like Fr. Mike does in the BIAY. I highly recommend this book!!
Our family reads a new story each night and everyone loves to discuss when the story is done. Our kids are 11, 9, & 7 and all are equally enjoying this new addition to our family prayer time each night.
Gives young kids an opportunity to visually imagine the bible stories. Very easy to read and helps the young reader remain focused on important details. I highly recommend this bible for kids!!
This is the perfect way to share the genius Great Adventure Bible with my kids! The GAB is phenomenal, especially if you listen to the podcast with Father Mike reading it aloud; this book allows me to share what I am learning from Fr. Mike & Scripture in a child friendly manner. THANK YOU also for the beautiful illustrations. They are soft but realistic without being too juvenile looking. You guys NAILED IT.
I purchased this bible to see if it was worth purchasing more for my grandchildren and using in my PSR class. I really liked the way this children’s bible tells the story in sequence. Most children’s bible just tell Bible stories in no particular order. The lay out is closer to an adult bible than any other children’s bible I have seen. There is more substance to this book yet it is very easy to understand. I highly recommend this bible.
I gave this to my grandkids, 9 year old twins (boy and girl)and an 11 year old boy. They share it. One of them text me tonight and said she is on page 45, God destroys a wicked city. She said she loves it!! I’m thrilled with this purchase! I pray their love for the Living Word will continue their whole life!! Thank you!
I can’t wait to give this to my granddaughter for Christmas. The pictures are beautiful and the reading level is perfect for her. It is a chapter book which she loves and they are a great length for developing attention spans. I am hoping that as she shares it with her cousins, they will want one too!
I purchased this for my 8 year old granddaughter. Before giving it to her, I wanted to read it, to see how it approached the Bible stories. I was very impressed! The pictures for each story were beautifully done also. I strongly recommend it. These are not cute little stories of Noah's ark or Moses found in the river, etc. These take the children through the Bible, making them familiar with the actual Bible, so they can better understand and appreciate it. Thank you!
I am a 5th grade teacher at a Catholic elementary school. We are still in the early world section, but my students have been loving this book. It has already fostered so much conversation. The 'story' part of the bible is clear, and there are also good explanations within the narrative that help understand the deeper parts that a child wouldn't pick up on from reading a regular bible.
Our Parish purchased a set of these books to use for our 4th-6th grade classes between sacrament preparation. In conjunction with the GPS curriculum material, this book is such a beautiful way for the children to learn the story of Salvation. The color coding system helps them to remember the different time periods, and the children love reading it!
I received the book today. It is beautiful. I am excited about sharing this with my 12 year old granddaughter. We will do this together as a Bible study. I think it will help her to have a better understanding of the word of God. As a CCD teacher, I see this as a great tool to use in the classroom.
I purchased this Bible for my 9 year old daughter, in order to add variety to her reading experience, while diving into the Word of God. This Bible, is by far, our favorite! The author does a beautiful job capturing the fullness of the story while adding a touch of our Catholic faith. At the end of each story is the scriptural reference, to which we have recently begun digging deeper into the stories she wants to know more about. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful as well. I highly recommend this for your younger reader, and wouldn’t be surprised if your older readers (including yourself) wind up enjoying this beautiful Bible as well.
I purchased this Bible for my Grand daughter. She goes to public school and doesn't have the benefit of a Catholic school education that I had. She attends CCD or PREP as it is now called and recently received her first Holy Communion. This Bible is just what I was looking for to foster what is lacking in her PREP classes. I highly recommend it to all parents and grandparents who are committed to passing our Catholic faith to their children and grandchildren.
I bought this for my 8 year old granddaughter for a first Holy Communion gift. It’s beautiful! I’m so happy that the stories follow the Great Bible Adventure timeline. What a great way to present the Bible in story form to create interest. Hopefully as she gets older she’ll want to know more.
This book is an excellent resource for my Bible History class. I am a teacher in a Catholic classical school. Michael LaVoy is an excellent illustrator! Well done Michael!
I have bought dozens of children's Bibles and what struck me first is that this illustrated Bible includes the story of Maccabees! You don't see that often.
This is a large hardback. I am excited to read a chapter a day with the kids over the summer. I like that we will be able to get through the whole narrative in one sweeping movement without a year-long commitment, but it still has depth.
