I used this Storybook and the accompanying Intermediate Workbook for my first grader's homeschool course this year. We tackled a chapter a week, splitting each chapter between two days so as to fully absorb what we'd read before moving on.
We both loved it! He was thrilled each week to sit down with me and see what would happen next in the story of salvation history. I found the material to be incredibly rich in terms of the number of Bible passages included, the level of detail, and the helpful explanations, appendices, glossary, etc. I also really enjoyed the discussion questions included at the end of each chapter, as those were a great way to ensure his understanding of what we'd read and make connections to his own life.
I absolutely appreciated that the passages were not watered down to a "little kid" type of Bible. However, I did find that I needed to pause every few sentences while reading to "translate" what I'd read for my first grader. The book is intended to go along with the curriculums for K - 8, and it definitely lends itself more in language to older kids. That said, going through it together, my first grader and I got so much value out of this Storybook, the workbook, and our discussions. I'm thrilled to have found this invaluble resource for our homeschool.
My daughter is 9 and we have struggled finding a bible that is not too "babyish" yet able to understand. We love the GPS storybook!! It is well written with just enough illustrations. We jumped in with the Intermediate workbook which is so helpful reinforcing what we read. We complete a chapter per week and look forward to using the Advanced workbook in the future. She loves the timeline too - it's a great, quick reference to turn to.
