As the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops dedicates the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the occasion of the country’s 250th anniversary, Ascension has partnered with artist Bernadette Carstensen to make widely available her beautiful depiction of the Sacred Heart, ideal for enthroning at home or in the workplace.

As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “The prayer of the Church venerates and honors the Heart of Jesus just as it invokes his most holy name. It adores the incarnate Word and his Heart which, out of love for men, he allowed to be pierced by our sins” (CCC 2669).

In this prize-winning artwork, iconographic elements point to Jesus’s human and divine natures, as he fixes his attention simultaneously on the viewer and his heavenly Father.

The original painting, in watercolor and acrylic on illustration board, was commissioned by bishop Frederick Campbell for the diocese of Columbus Ohio's dedication to the Sacred Heart in 2015.
