2024 Ascension “Truth and Beauty” Awards For Catholic Content Creators

In Brief:

Hosted in honor of the Ascension Presents channel hitting 1 million subscribers on YouTube, the Ascension “Truth and Beauty” Catholic Content Creator Awards celebrate excellence among individual Catholic video creators who are sharing the transformative power of the Gospel on social media and YouTube. The Awards will also include a “People’s Choice” category for the audience favorite Ascension Presents video of all time.

Prizes:

  • $500 cash award to help winning creators upgrade their gear or software

  • Winning videos will be celebrated in a highlights video on Ascension social media and YouTube channels, driving lots of new traffic to the winner’s channel

  • Winning videos will be listed in Ascension press coverage

  • Winning creators will receive a commemorative award plaque

  • Finalist and winning videos will be reviewed by the Ascension Presents team, including Fr. Mike Schmitz

Competition closes 11:59pm PT on December 31, 2024

Categories:

There are 2 categories. Creators may submit 2 total videos in the categories of their choice.

  • Category 1: 0-90 second videos (typically designed for Meta, TikTok, X)

  • Category 2: 90 seconds - 12 minutes (typically designed for YouTube)

Criteria for Evaluation:

  • The winning videos will be those that celebrate the truth and/or beauty of the Catholic faith—which could be practically any Catholic topic!

    • Examples include but are not limited to: videos that explain an aspect of the faith, videos that celebrate an interesting part of the faith, advice videos, day-in-the-life Catholic videos, Catholic comedy, TikTok trends with a Catholic theme… basically anything with a Catholic tie!

  • Ascension exists to share the transformative power of the Gospel. Winning videos will do this too, either explicitly or implicitly.

Eligibility:

  • Submitting creator should be a practicing Catholic whose online presence promotes the truth and beauty of the Catholic faith

  • Submitting creator must have an active public account on social media / YouTube

  • Videos must be submitted by their own creator

  • Videos should mostly be created by a single person - a second person may have held the camera during recording, but the winning video will be recorded, edited, and presented by the same person

  • Videos should have been posted on original account in 2023 or 2024

  • Videos created for affiliate or ad purposes are not eligible to win

  • Because these are awards honoring individual content creators, businesses and organizations are not eligible to apply

  • Ascension employees are not eligible to apply

  • Ascension contractors with an ongoing contract are not eligible to apply

  • Q: Who is judging these videos?

    • A: The Ascension team will select award winners… and Fr. Mike Schmitz will review the winners, as well!

  • Q: Do videos have to be original for this competition, or can people submit pre-existing content?

    • A: You can submit any video that was not created for affiliate or ad-related purposes.

  • Q: Can someone submit more than 1 video?

    • A: You can submit up to 2 videos per person / channel. You can submit 1 video in each time category, 2 videos in a single time category, or just 1 video overall.

  • Q: Can I submit a video that someone else helped me edit / film / plan / etc?

    • A: You should be the main presenter and editor in the video that you submit. If your friend held the camera, that’s OK, but you should be the main person speaking and the only person editing the video you submit.

  • Q: Do you have suggested topics for videos?

    • A: Any video that celebrates the truth and beauty of the Catholic faith is fair game!
