Dr. James L. Papandrea

Dr. James L. Papandrea is an award-winning author, professor, and Church historian with a passion for helping Catholics understand the history and theology of the early Christian Church. A former Protestant deacon who became a Catholic layperson and catechist, Dr. Papandrea has dedicated his career to exploring the early Church and sharing the faith of the first Christians with a wider audience.

Dr. Papandrea holds an MDiv from Fuller Theological Seminary and a PhD in the history and theology of the early Christian Church from Northwestern University, with secondary concentrations in New Testament interpretation and the history of the Roman Empire. He has also studied Roman history at the American Academy in Rome, Italy. He currently serves on the faculty at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and is a senior fellow of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology.

Dr. Papandrea is the author of numerous books, which have been translated into multiple languages. He hosts The Way of the Fathers podcast and The Original Church YouTube channel. With Ascension, he is the author and presenter of “The Holy Spirit: The Lord, the Giver of Life” study program.
