Pocket Guide to the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Pocket Guide to the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Prepare your heart for Reconciliation and enter more deeply into this powerful sacrament
The Pocket Guide to the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a beautiful, prayerful book by Fr. Mike Schmitz and Fr. Josh Johnson which helps Catholics enter in to the Sacrament of Reconciliation more deeply.
They discuss why Catholics are called to Reconciliation, how to form a healthy conscience, and what to expect when walking into the confessional in order to lead Catholics to better understand and appreciate the beauty of this sacrament, ultimately inspiring them to seek the grace and forgiveness that Christ longs to bestow on them.
In this small but powerful book, Fr. Mike and Fr. Josh explain:
-
How to make an excellent examination of conscience
-
How to identify the root cause of sins you find yourself confessing over and over again
-
What to do if you don't feel sorry for your sins
-
What to do if you can't think of anything to say
-
What do to if you are afraid to confess a particular sin
Not only does this resource help readers better understand the opportunity for grace and peace found in the sacrament of Reconciliation, it is also perfect for bringing along every time you go!
With its small size and durable cover, it fits in most bags. It also contains an Examination of Conscience and the Act of Contrition for reference leading up to and during your experience of the sacrament.
See why Catholics everywhere are using this book to prepare for Reconciliation!

This book was nothing short of outstanding. Fr. Mike's explanation of the reality of sin that we all share... Always coupled with the abundant mercy of Jesus renewed my love for this sacrament. The different ways of examining ones conscience was also very helpful. I keep the book closer at hand!
Such an amazing book! It gets right to the heart of reconciliation...which is the heart of God. Thank you for helping me to see the spirit of reconciliation for what it really is...an opportunity to get back fully to God.
This book lacks a list of the 10 Commandments. They should be the start of the examination of conscience, then go on to the 7 Deadly Sins.
Particularly for a new Catholic, or a Catholic returned after a long absence absence, a complete list is vital.
I was lost for at least 25 years and this book guided me back to the Lord through reconciliation. It was very difficult to remember and admit all my sins since I was lost. The Holy Spirit empowered me to finish the book and accept my sins. I went to confession on 3/9/24 scared and nervous. I spent at least 8 minutes in confession and took 3 days to remember and write down all my sins. It truly is a beautiful book for those who have not been to confession for a period of time or never been. Within the book you will gain enlightenment and empowerment to receive the sacrament of reconciliation. Glory to God,Jesus and The Holy Spirit for flowing through Fr. Josh and Fr. Mike to write this gift of salvation. Thank you God bless and peace be with you.
I have not yet read the entire book, but I have already found it so helpful as I prepared for Confession prior to Christmas Day. The appendix offers some reflections to consider in the examination of conscience, and this made it so much more real for me. The first section on the power of Confession inspired me to WANT to confess my sins and reunite my soul with Our Lord and Savior. I brought this book right into the confessional with me, and will do so again and again!
